Dream cotton batting/quilting question
Comments (10)Having the smaller blocks off-centered on the larger ones might discourage this......but I have a double nine patch top I shall get to quilting on soon, and it has similar problems. That's way I was listening for suggestions. The smaller patches would be a piece of cake with SITD or echo quilting, but that still leaves the quite large blocks needing some reinforcement against the batting. I do not want to do tying on this one in the large areas and think with a square being completely symmetrical, I may do, in the center of each, an easy design off a stencil. Something like a celtic cross, or four hearts, with the bottom points touching in a circle, a large star......flower, whatever. Mine is a functional quilt for my own bed, and I'm not interested in investing months of hand quilting for an utilitarian use....See MoreMy first quilt shop hop and also Quilts and Vines
Comments (3)I've not had a winearitas before, sounds interesting! I love the idea of quilting and wine (also 2 of my favorites). Of course, I can't do them at the same time (don't ask how I know!!)....See Moredreaming quilts
Comments (10)I also often wake up in the night thinking about a quilt I am working on or want to make. Then I lie there half asleep, going over and over the same things, unable either to get back to sleep or to wake up enough to free my mind. The good thing about it is that thinking about quilts is pleasant, as you all know! But the worst time I have had that way lately wasn't from a quilt but that video about making pillowcases...the one that starts out the first several minutes showing something else, and the method of making the pillowcase involves rolling up part of it and turning the cylinder made of the roll and the wide strip of decorative fabric for the end of the case inside out. That apparently really caught the attention of my unconscious mind. I felt as if I were caught in a spell and couldn't break out of it. I still feel a compulsion to start making those pillowcases! (Like a post-hypnotic suggestion!)...See MoreHelp with the quilting part of this quilt on my long arm....
Comments (8)Beautiful work as usual!!! Superior Threads has a new longarm thread called MicroQuilter #100 polyester for using when you don't want the thread or stitching to show, such as around applique, or in this case your gorgeous embroidery . It is easier to use then mono filament. You may have to adjust your tension. I suggest trying this new thread, stitching in the areas around the motifs that are flat - no seams. Be consistent in the stitching you add to the blocks and what little thread shows (if any) will look like part of the design - like adding a small circle or curve or straight line. 100# thread is very thin. Experiment with needle size. Lots of starts and stops. Stay away from the bulky seams. You risk getting your machine out of timing every time your needle sticks or breaks, or hangs up. Since your batting is already secure, you only need to add enough stitching to keep the backing attached evenly. Stitch in the Ditch is one of the harder elements to achieve on a longarm - not simple at all. You will not be able to use a ruler on bulky seam. This will be quick to do on the longarm. Make sure your backing is loaded straight and square, and you keep even tension on it to avoid tucks and pleats. I recommend floating the top to avoid rolling and crinkling it before quilting. Hope this is helpful....See Moremmmm12COzone5
