Need design advise for replacing couches/ rug etc.
Comments (15)And in the style of gray you shared, all I could think of is no one will sit on the end, but magazines, junk mail, someone's cap, a purse.....LOL Yes, I said last time we bought a couch...no more. Recliners for everyone, with their own armrests and footrests...and than LazBoy sold and is manufactured for more profit, basically.. The most popular seating in a room, is the loveseat recliners with the cupholders! when the family is home. The loveseat recliners go first/2 pair of them, than the club chair(often with 2 kids), than the ends of the 3 cushion couch, and a dining chair with arms will be turned into the group, beFORE anyone sits on the center couch cushion(except someone's in house puppy.....he is there right away!! 2 chance that one of 2 people on the armrest cushion will pet him.) I still like the theory of the 'group sectional' but when you look at resale sights, they are ALWAYS there, with 2 cushions near the ends kaput, and if there was a dual recliner in the center with armrests, those look really awful ie used up.........and the 2 cushions on the right and left center look like no one ever sat there. So, now, depending on the size of the area, pick and choose amongst I think at least 1,- 2 recliner set, 2 chairs with one ottoman, and 2 nice chairs with arm rest, OR a rocker and a chair, is a better option(and, albeit, more expensive).. If you have alot of friends/family with some knee or back problems after a lifetime of wear and work, those firm sitting chairs with or without seat cushions/lumbar pillow, and a firm armrest are what they prefer to sit and rise gracefully out of in a social gathering....See MoreRug/Accesories for Living Room advise
Comments (11)I know but there are lots on line the bottom one is from Allmodern and the top one from THE MOST CHIC I know you have tons of awesome artists on the island so get a pice of art you just love don’t worry about it going with anything if you love it will work always. As for dining chairs I would need to see the table but I don’t find you have too much wood . Then ebnd tables need to be useful for a drink and a lamp on this end of the sofa on the right and also one between the 2 chairs Then something long and skinny for a coffee table there and in the TV spot something to put your feet on and end tables at either end of the sofa for drinks and more lamps. Something like this for the coffee table on the right side to bring the white in from the TV stand...See MoreAdvise on layout please!!
Comments (11)Any furniture arrangement used should not infringe on the pass-through path. Will the fireplace be built into the wall (flush) or will it project into the room? If it will be flush or have a low profile, you could try the sectional facing the fireplace wall, with the chairs flanking the fireplace. It would at least provide two seats sitting in front of the fireplace and still keep it open for conversation. Don’t worry about the back of the sectional being towards the stairs. If you go with your original arrangement with the seating at opposite ends of the room, you could place two small upholstered seats under the console table near the stairs to provide more seating when needed. If you need storage more than extra seating, a console cabinet instead of a table might be a better option under the stairs. And if it’s not too wide, you may have room for a chair beside the cabinet. So you’d get storage and another seat. Your choice. Rug size is good but the stripes will be hidden if you keep the sectional where it is in the photo....See MoreHelp choosing rug for 130 year old antique round table
Comments (59)Musclejunkie, the rugs you like so much look wonderful. The glimpses of your home in these two rooms show how pretty its features are.I especially like how the darker rug looks in the office, and Jinx makes such a good point that it is nice to foster cohesion in color/ tone between the two rooms, if possible. Ida ( CONGRATULATIONS on your property acquisition!) , the rooms you showed are gorgeous, not the least of which is your own living room with its stunning rug! However, in each example there is a degree of contrast between the furniture and the carpet. I did want to say that, imo, there is a case to be made for the beautiful carved legs of the dining table getting a bit lost against the very dark rug. Perhaps, that is not so much the case IRL and as I said, it does nevertheless look beautiful. I no longer have the info. on these rugs, but I just wanted to show as an example of very “rich” rugs that would offer more contrast ( even the darker red one). Also, if it were my rooms I would not want to use two round rugs adjacent to each other. I mean it is ok, but I feel it takes away a little bit from the specialness of the round shape when it is more redundant as in two side by side. Of course, that is just a very personal line of thought/ preference. —- Either way, your rooms are going to look beautiful....See Moregreenfish1234
