I'll Show You Mine/You Show Me Yours - Fr 12/14

I wanted to mark this day, the 6th anniversary of Sandy Hook. DH and I sought out Rock Creek Cemetery in search of this sculpture. It' is commonly called "Grief" but Saint-Gaudens named it "The Mystery of the Hereafter" or "The Peace of God that Passeth Understanding". It is part of the Adams Memorial, the rest being designed by famous architect Stanford White.

For me, this sculpture so captures the pain of loss and suffering in so many significant and yet subtle ways....the pain and grief we can only imagine and never capture in our hearts for the loss of the 28 people who died that day.

(My apologies: Not my photo, it is from the Historic American Buildings Survey. I think the photos I took at the time were pre-digital so I'm not sure where they ended up.)
