Comments (18)That way-too-dressy, shiny and heavy shower curtain isn't doing you any favors. Quick fixes are to find a lighter shower curtain - I have one in my small guest bath that is a bit lacy with some see-through areas, and is quite airy and floaty-looking. I think I got it at BBB for not a lot of money. I have a clear vinyl liner on the inside, also inexpensive. Change out the shower curtain before you invest thousands in a renovation. Painting over the gloomy gray wall paint would be helpful, for a lighter color. Also, 5 weeks that you mentioned is not enough for the kind of renovation you are taking about. Comments (46)Exactly! btw. I sound like a total rube I know, but no one ever told me I have to squeegee my glass to keep it from etching. Get the girls a squeegee and have them go to town after every shower. It will keep the grout cleaner as well as save you from having to see permanent spots on the glass door....See MoreGrout cracking in bathroom corner walls on 7 month old bathroom
Comments (11)If you have a curb, you will have the cracks develop there, too. and where the walls meet the floor. Anywhere where two different materials meet or where one surface meets another that is in a different direction (known as "change of plane"). My contractor still grouts such places, too. But I did a solid surface shower that he could not do wrong. I am keeping an eye on the place where the floor meets the shower pan, all other places are in dry areas. So there it is just cosmetic. I would guess that water can get behind your tile with those cracks. If properly waterproofed it is fine, but if not, I would get to this as soon as you can. A lot of shower builders do not use waterproofing, even though it is now required. If you do a search on this forum for "Shower waterproof," you can see many discussions about it and learn what is and is not waterproof. (Redguard yes, Durock no, for instance.)...See Moredifferent flooring in just one bathroom?
Comments (16)I'll say it again: If you really have every other room (every other bathroom, the kitchen, the laundry room, the great room, the bedrooms and all the livings spaces) in the same wood look tile, and this one bathroom (the kid's hall bath) in a different tile, it will look weird. It's not that using a different tile in a bathroom is weird. It's that choosing just that one place to be different is weird. It would be less weird if it were the primary owner's bath, because then it could be the oasis that @SJ McCarthy is referencing. But the kid's hall bath as oasis?? Well, if you like baths, and don't have a tub in the primary owner's bath, maybe the tub in the kid's bath is your oasis.......See Moremillworkman
