Yes, Ive seen the dustbowl, and know about "The Year Without a Summer", and I also know that the last time the earth was as warm as projected in 100 years, the forest prairie line was not near OKC down to Dallas, but much further west near Lubbock Texas. It is also thought that the over all winters were milder. Which actually gives me a big of hope so to speak. Though,hard data is lacking during that time. And FTR, I do think the current issues are partly caused by the natural cycles of NA climate. Specifically negative PDO, La Nina during a negative PDO, and unusually warm Atlantic (actually warmer than would be indicated by past climate) Have been saying that from the start. BUT hardly all of it. There was no May snow in Arkansas during the 30's. Nor did the Arctic ice melt as it is now. What's more, many of those records are now being broken. Lastly, those extremes tended to be one sided i.e. drought and heat, not lurching back and forth from one en to the other with basically no transition. Run the machine briefly on a warm fill with the supply hoses disconnected so residual water in inlet valves can drain out. Then pour some RV/marine antifreeze directly into the drum so it mixes into whatever residual water is in the pump/sump. Can run it on Spin Only for a few seconds so the pump runs to mix the water and antifreeze. Run a cycle when the machine is put back into use to flush out the chemicals.

Yes metal will cool faster than wood and taller beds will cool faster than shorter ones. I assume your beds are close to ground level now but lifting them up even if they are full of soil will let in more of the cold because the sides are now exposed to wind and cold weather. It is the same as leaving plants to winter in a planter as opposed to planting them in the soil. You may be able to get away with it if you line the sides of your beds with thick Styrofoam. It will lessen the heat loss from the sides. If you get snow shovel it up against the more exposed sides. Loose snow is a great insulator because of the trapped air inside it

I'm mostly too warm, but grocery stores are def. cool enough for me. I am not someone who goes out in shorts, sandals and tank tops either for the very reason that I never know how chilly a place might be. I am inwardly amused at my sister who does that and then is constantly complaining she's cold. My other sister has Hashimoto's and is always feeling chilled, but dresses accordingly. At my age, I often say my thermostat is broken. It's also been so hot here that many people's a/cs are running 24/7 and can still be insufficient. That said, in re: public places being uncomfortably cold or hot - FWIW, the city rec ctr where I work has had a terrible (and expensive) a/c system for many years now. It's constantly either breaking down or malfunctioning and administrative & maintenance staff do not know how to set the complicated electronic thermostats that were supposed to save energy, but don't seem to be connected to anything. They're are maybe a dozen 'zones', each with its own control, each set on some sort of schedule, but the temp.s in the rooms never match what the controls say they are at. Rooms can be stifling hot while the hallways will be perfectly comfortable, or even too cold.
