Few succulents then & now
Comments (34)Rina, That's such a great Aloe of puppiferousness. Wanted to correct Colleen (because it happens once in a lifetime), too - it's now G. superbum - it was raised to species rank, so there's also now the other one, G. pentandrum....See MoreWatering succulents outdoors
Comments (2)bascly i dont water any succulent any more than twice a week . If so that succulent is in the wrong sun locaction and it needs to be moved for later day time full sun for a couple weeks or longer. In a sence almost more as important than the ingediants in the mix you made is what type of succulents are you refferancing ?...See Moresucculent pot photos: GO!
Comments (18)Ah yes but some do enjoy some of the finer things in life & why not, some of these plants are the finer things things in life. It's like asking me why do I drive a gas saving compact car on any given day when I have a super duty pick up ? Neil: In pot prices you'd pay less for a nicely sized hand crafted Kitoi than the same sized Raynor that would cost slightly more. Smaller hand made pots cost more than a bigger sized hand made pots cause artist skills that require avoiding error in making them is more likely. There is nothing wrong with 'hand crafted pots' they need to work/perform and be enjoyed as much. Staging is a bit more than just a pretty plant in a pretty pot it too is an art. pot samples: Thin wall off round hand thrown with a level and easy to balance feet a stable well balanced footed at the base On that trip to the show(s) it rides as stable as they come, handles the occasional rougher day outside It's in the shape it's weight and how it's balanced This one is one of my favs in many areas It's solid has very nice weight for it's size, ease of use, the superior workman ship or craftsmanship of the pot, with the succulent inside it'll draw some attention ( but just a bit) It's an honor to have it here and wasn't very expensive at all. Intricate in details, it's drainage is flush to the microscopic even level and is equally textured as the pot it's self. It's a tuff world out there, as a pot crafting spare time hobby friend told me " It'll handle anything I throw at it." Naturally I responded with, " not if I throw a hammer at it." Guess what ? If I break it I buy but if I don't break I'll defiantly buy I was/am happy to be wrong. They are solid and very stable if to drop 50 or more feet on a sidewalk this pot will not break A plant inside of this one on the other hand may need some work One more hand made with feet on the bottom some of it's ordeals and puzzles. As level as they are some feet don't work as well as others in the same conditions some feet work better in other conditions. Note the location of the feet and there location on the bottom they're less balanced than the others Exaggeration, yes but I suspect a stronger wind could carry the wind torn plant less pot to the land of OZ if it blew long enough All I have to do is image a couple feet of travel from a modest wind or my sudden lazy hands that may lead the pot a visit to the floor, Top heave it's kind of off balanced the same story wont have a very happy ending for a plant inside of this one This can offer a challenge to the user of this style that include: They need to pack, they need to handle bumps and turns during the ride, they need to handle some harsher outside conditions at times. This one is a bit more difficult to pack for the ride and doesn't ride as well. In comparison to some of my other pots that can handle even more than a hammer being thrown at it, this hand made works but for me it's not intended for outside use. Question Nei: Puzzling as it may be what succulent can I put in it that'll ride as well as the succulent looks ? Okay a bit tough as the succulent may look better...... You get the idea. Them dime a dozen things: AKA what to look for when looking at a pot 101 Why them cheap Chinese ceramic glazed are cheap. The wire holes are commonly found off center from the drainage, some have no level feet some are just off in intended shape ,some have a lesser level bottom to slight dipping in the middles. They are made by a machine in massive amounts at the dime a dozen price. Granted some will work and can even work well but provide very little to nothing to talk about. In my little world it's like thinking ot loud but also to yourself.... Ohh wow look at that one, it's a pretty plant in a boring pot . ( While whispering to the other onlooker(s) do you think they should of use standard TC or plastic ?) Agree it's commonly not a good suggestion to suggest to the general public of forums to over pot but in the science of pot cultivating every rule can be broken as long as the laws are not....See MoreMaking pots for succulents
Comments (106)Dolores Coullie I tried to make some pots today... wow much harder than it looks, at first my mix was too soft and of course I started with the biggest plastic basin I had, all was just sliding down, so I remixed with another bit of sand and cement to get the consistency right. I then did one med basin, and some small tubs and plastic pots, got some right, some a bit wonky. I battled to get the tops right but in the end I just put some blobs of cement on the top and the big one I pocked with the knife (I saw you had a pot with a rough top in one pic) it was easier with the smaller pots. After a couple of hours I sprayed with water (!!! I got confused !!) pots immediately started to melt...yikes, fixed them up as best I could and wait for tomorrow to fill with water. Thanks Neli Stoyanova I will see how these come out and will try again. These are my small ones....See Moresocks
