We've recently installed a new wood insert into our pre-existing fireplace, went to get it inspected and found our hearth was an inch too short to pass inspection. We didnt like the hearth anyway, as it was a danger to our young children, so decided to take it out completely and tile the floor instead. Upon removing the hearth, we found that the wall of brick work did not continue to the floor. Instead we were left with cement and rebar which we have chipped away at as best we could, yet its still a complete eyesore and is almost impossible (With the tools we have) to get flush. I'm looking for ideas on how to blend this into the brick wall / floor. We were thinking of making a new brick "mini-hearth" to tie it in, but not sure how good that will look. Anyone encounter a similar situation or have any ideas? Thanks

Natalie Myers just redid her fireplace grout to look more- well i want to say modern, but it’s actually more of an ancient look. you add more grout in between so it’s more of a flat finish with wide light grout.
