From your owners manual: "12.16.06 4 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY For FOUR YEARS from the date of retail purchase within Canada, YARDWORKS CANADA will, at its option, repair or replace, for the original purchaser, free of charge, any part or parts found to be defective in material or workmanship. This warranty does not cover: 1. Any part which has become inoperative due to misuse, commercial use, abuse, neglect, accident, improper maintenance or alteration; or 2. The unit if it has not been operated and/or maintained in accordance with the owner’s instructions furnished with the unit; or 3. The engine or motor or component parts thereof which carry separate warranties from their manufacturers. Please refer to the applicable manufacturer’s warranty on these items; and read engine warranty statement below. The Powermore engine is not excluded under this agreement, or 4. Thanks. Liftmaster sounds like just the thing. Techdave, I didn't see what happened, and am waiting to find out if the damage is in any way covered (it seems that the GDO wasn't properly adjusted and exerted way too much force) so I probably shouldn't say more about it. The light beam unfortunately would not help if the front or back end of a car was under the path of the door but the tires weren't breaking the beam, or if the beam was between the front & back wheels of a bike, or - well, you get the idea. Within our extended family, we have folks who are severely hearing impaired, in a wheelchair, suffer from Alzheimer's, etc., and I'd rather replace all of our GDOs than to risk anyone being injured. It's not possible to eliminate every risk, but this is one I can manage.

As to why it is dangerous, consider this scenario. A homeowner stores things in the rafters of his detached garage or workshop above the door track area. He goes to get something down and is careful to press the lock button before setting up a ladder in the door area. He then climbs the ladder to retrieve some items from the rafters. A family member, not realizing anyone is in the garage or shop walks up to the door and keys in the code on the keypad. The door, despite being "locked," starts up and strikes the homeowner on the ladder, knocking him down onto the concrete below. The fall results in his death or serious injury. Why did this happen? Because the control said "Lock" when it had no capacity to actually lock the door. There is no doubt in my mind that this has already happened or will happen. I would bet on it having already happened. Chamberlain/Sears is lucky not to have been sued, or maybe they have already settled one or two cases. We have no way of knowing. I just know the system should be changed, or the button should be labeled accurately with something like "Disable Vehicle Remotes." BTW, I'm the homeowner in the forgoing scenario, and the door was ten foot high. I just got lucky, and no one happened to use the keypad while I was up the ladder. I thought the opener was locked, I really did. I was stunned to find out it really wasn't. The current situation is absolutely appalling and needs to be changed. As to getting in when returning from vacation, get out of the car and unlock the pedestrian door.

On page 28 of the manual under the heading "How and when to adjust the forces" Item 1 (Test the DOWN force bullet 2 (If the door reverses during the down (close) cycle and the opener lights aren't flashing ...) I read this as the lights should flash. I increased the force in small increments until I reached the max limit and couldn't get the lights to flash. Do you think the closer is defective or do you have any other suggestions?
