24' wide and 8' tall closet doors flank front door, 6 or 3 panel?
Comments (2)Why not a big pane of glass for the anteroom door with top and bottom rails and the stiles the same as the paneled doors. Three panel on the closet doors instead of six because of the narrow width. Proportion trumps number. The windows on the top stories of many period houses with 6-6 sashon the lower floors, are 3-3 with a proportion similar to the lites below. Some have been replaced with 6-6, resulting in a cluttered window with horizontal looking lites. Proportion is more important, and the width of those panels if you did 6 on such a narrow tall door would be sliver-like....See MoreExtra wide curtain panels for patio door
Comments (10)Sadie, I went and looked at my curtains. I see now that I actually used 2 panels on each side. Each panel is 54 inches wide. More width than I needed but I guess now that I didn't want to cut one panel into two widths. My panels are not lined. I just opened up the opposing side hems and sewed them together with a very narrow seam and then overcast the edge. I have no problem drawing the curtains across except for getting the folds to look "perfect"- that's partly because I have all that extra fabric width. I used to close the curtains everyday because the door faces south and the sun could be too much, but we have replaced the original door and now have blinds between the glass. Now I only close the curtains at night if we have guests for dinner and I want it to look a little fancier in the room....See MoreExtra wide fireplace - how to decorate?
Comments (12)Brooke, it's coming along and you have a fun and colorful space. Yes it's normal for the fireplace to look like a black hole, and my phone camera also cannot handle blues! In my opinion, everything you have on your mantel now is too small. All I see at first glance is clutter. Since you found somewhere else for your books, I think pricklypearcactus has shown the best use of the space, although I would argue in the favor of more negative space. So, only a few large, layered prints; not going the whole way across. Also, poster frames can be purchased inexpensively with coupons at the chain craft stores or at Walmart or IKEA. And they can be filled inexpensively with black and white engineering prints at the office supply store. I'm talking $3-5 for a 24"×36" print. You upload your own pictures to print. These can be digital files you purchase on Etsy.com for a few bucks, or even pictures off your phone. Leave a lot of white space around the picture. I can upload examples when not on my phone if you'd like more info. I think a few B&W prints up there, layered in black poster frames would be all you need. Would echo your B&W pillow, and allow your beautiful wall color and all your fun colorful accents to shine. All could be done for less than a hundred dollars....See MorePatio Sliding Door curtain - extra wide
Comments (4)Patricia, so I will need a center support...okay that means I'll need two panels (for the both sides, left & right)? How do I keep the curtain "open" that will allow me to use the sliding door? Fabric... I am not sure which one is best, but I don't want thin fabric like lien. I might go with either velvet, cotton, polyester, or maybe blackout. I understand that velvet and blackout are heavy. I will post a picture of my sliding door - maybe tomorrow. Thanks for your advice....See MoreBspoke Homes
