SMOOTH TOUCH ROSES: Smooth Moonlight, Smooth Prince, and Smooth Satin?
Comments (19)OMG I have no idea on fragrance! I just happened to be visiting Mom a few months before she passed, and saw it blooming so took a pic. I don't think it had bloomed much over the yrs. My dad was a tightwad and wouldn't let Mom water hardly at all. Their lawn was always brown by summertime. When my niece moved in yrs ago after he passed away, she kinda kept the flowerbed cleaned up and watered, so the few roses that remained began to perk up a little. Most had died back to rootstock tho. Except for this one and my massive SPICE TWICE rose that had been a test rose back in the 90s. I gave Mom a bunch of my roses when we still lived in the mobile home park because I ran out of room and was trying new roses. I always knew I could come back and get cuttings. I just wish I could remember the name of this one. All I know is it was a "Smooth" rose! This pic is awful. It looks like the rose is more of a lavender-pink on white, but as I recall, I believe it might've had a little faint bit of either yellow or apricot in the center. And seriously... I seem to remember the name being SMOOTH ANGEL. But I just don't know. I certainly hope at least some of the cuttings I took will survive and possibly bloom this yr so I can see what it is. I'm sure the new owners would let me come and get more cuttings. They were next-door-neighbors....See MoreViolette (aka Violetta): a Hybrid Multiflora Rambler/Climber
Comments (52)I LOVE PURPLE BUTTONS! I am getting giddy just thinking about its late springflush of bloom. PB and Midnight Blue are the Marie Pavies of the purple rose world. Perfectly sized for my inner city garden and absolutely joy-inspiring whenever I spot a cluster of blooms. In fact, Marie Pavie and PB look fanatic side by side. Breathtaking! All summer. Violette is one of my very favorite roses! (I think I'm repeating myself.) It is my top purple rambler. The color, when backlit, is breathtaking. I have been visiting mine daily. I can hardly wait for those little bud clusters to open.... Carol...See MoreMoonlight in Paris or Crocus Rose?
Comments (15)Ashley , that whole bush shot does look more like Crocus Rose. Rosecanadian and Toto, those are some gorgeous pics of MIP blooms. I bought one last fall from Heirloom and my plant has had a lot of blooms this year but most are more washed out looking. I don't fret about that because for me blooms usually improve as a plant gets older and bigger. The pink rose kind of looks like Heritage. One distinct thing about Heritage is that the blooms blow fast. They do have a strong, sweet, citrusy fragrance....See MoreDavid Austin: the Leander Group
Comments (38)@ann beck 8a ruralish WA That is really interesting about the high cold tolerance being a sign of possible heat resistance! I will be able to test that out with some of the ones I planted this year, especially the rugosa hybrids and Comte de Chambord, both of which supposedly to do very well in Scandinavia. I did only a light pruning this season, our heavier pruning season is in September right after the worst of the heat. When I prune Wild Edric in September I will try rooting the cuttings, but I must admit that rooting cuttings is not my strong suit! I keep trying though! I am currently trying to root little bits of Comte as well as Autumn Damask that I clipped off when I planted the bare roots. I will try with Wild Edric in September and will definitely post if successful! You are lucky to be in a mild climate! It seems to me that zone 8 is really the goldilocks zone for growing roses, where they get some real winter but not too extreme, and a long enough growing season, with warm but not deadly hot summers. I hope your roses will do fantastic this year!...See MoreDave5bWY
