We bought a 23-yr. old house a year ago with white Thermofoil kitchen cabinets and two somewhat coordinating laminate patterns on the countertops--island top different from wall countertops. Cabinets and countertops still in good condition. However, we want to update the kitchen. We don't want to pay for costly upgrades (custom cabinets) as we're near the top of the home's price point for the area. We could leave the cabinets as they are and live with them or have them refaced. But the countertops...designers recoil when I mention laminate. Solid surface, perhaps? But putting granite on Thermofoil cabinets just seems wrong to me. Replacing flooring, also. As kitchen is open to family room, we want to integrate floors and use engineered hardwood in both. Again, will Thermofoil cabinets pale next to nice wood floors? Yes, I'm a bit hung up on the Thermofoil cabinets. Your thoughts?
