Looking for a continuous blooming BS free rose (other than KO)
Comments (22)You could have more variety of colors if you got some of the other Knock Outs also. They come in more colors than the cherry red in your photos. There is also a double PINK Knock Out. Then there is a yellow one (that fades whitish) that my neighbor swears is quite lovely, but it may be a single. And there is the Rainbow Knock Out which may also be a single--I'm not sure, having never seen one in real life, but I have heard some KO owners praise it also. It probably wouldn't help much, but Home Run, a bright red single that is distantly related to Knock Out, is very disease resistant, but its bright red would probably clash with the cherry red of your current Knock Outs. However, if you have an area where there are no Knock Outs, you might try Home Run. It's true red is a bit easier on the eyes than the cherry red of the usual KO. How do rugosa hybrids do in your area? They are highly BS resistant for me and come in whites and pinks--and I love those crinkled rugosa leaves. Kate...See MoreContinuous blooming yellow rose???
Comments (18)No problem Carla....just happy to get some response! Posted a few pics on the gallery and hardly any response over there. Guess folks like to make suggestions more than they like to gaze. lol. Maybe they feel like this friend we went to the Colorado Rockies with one time. We rode ALL the way from Georgia to Colorado and we get there and he says... "well, you seen one mountain, you've seen em all."" And was ready to turn around and go back home!!! Can you IMAGINE that kind of outlook??? It's become somewhat of a joke with us now about everything. SOOOOO I guess you seen one rose...you seen em all!! Hehehehe. Definitely NOT true with roses NOR mountains! Okay....i'll try to get BACK on subject here.... YELLOW ROSES.........See MoreSuggestions for best continuous bloom rose?
Comments (50)Aaron, some of my roses do bloom in part shade, including Rouge Royale. I've found no difference in any blooms frying here, whether the rose grows in part shade or full sun. It's a desert here and the air is very dry. This does as much damage as sun and heat, making almost all roses quickly crunchy. We have been in a continuous heat wave since June 9, and no rose will do well in that, whether in shade or not. I wish the roses wouldn't even try to bloom when it gets so hot and dry. We had no rain for almost three months until a few days ago, and finally, we got one night of rain. No more since. Today, finally, we drop into the 80s. For a few days, then it goes back up, which I hope proves incorrect. I've grown Jude the Obscure (huge) for 17 years, and while it is an exquisite, unique rose, I don't find that it reblooms well, certainly not like Munstead Wood, so I hope you eventually do acquire Munstead Wood. Other great bloomers for me, which I've probably already mentioned (sorry) are Julia Child, of course, Tamora, Golden Celebration, Boscobel, Love Song, and good bloomers, Rouge Royale, Augusta Luise, Ebb Tide, Twilight Zone, Bernstein-Rose, Ballerina, and who did I miss--ha? You will have fun, if you find him, with the challenging Prince, which slogged along for years, and produced nice blooms, when it felt like it, on a pretty little bush. After The Prince's third transplant, it perked up, liked the place, and began a slow "expansion", which exploded about three years ago, when The Prince put pedal to the metal, blooming almost nonstop. The blooms even got darker. This rose has gotten so big that I'm wondering if it has gone own root, or what other major factor has caused such a transformation. Comments (18)I don't think most rose gardeners can expect Munstead Woods to get much larger than 3.5 ft tall--but evidently some very warm places can get larger ones. However, there is also William Shakespeare 2000--nearly the same shade as Munstead Woods, but a bigger and much more sprawling bush. I'm not sure how tall you are looking for, but if you want more of a pure red without all the purply or dark burgundy shades of Munstead Wood, then try Clements modern shrub (with Austin's Dark Lady somewhere back in its lineage) called Braveheart--stays pure red to the end! Blooms a lot like an Austin shrub--but for me, gets only about 4 ft tall. Don't know if that is too short for you or not. I'm thinking right off hand that the only place you can buy it is at some place like Roses Unlimited. Braveheart shrub-- Hope that helps. That Crimson Glory above is truly gorgeous, isn't it!
