Honestly I don’t know that I’d do a chandelier by the staircase at all...it’s a very traditional look and I’m not crazy about how it hangs. If you’re gonna go through the pain of changing it anyway I might just change it to a recessed light. As for the entry chandelier, you can definitely something a little more modern there, but keep in mind your staircase is still traditional looking so you don’t want to do something too modern, as it will look odd and out of place. Transitional would be better. Do you like the orb chandeliers?

On a side note if you painted the stair railings dark it would really modernize the whole look! I had white before and after changing it to a dark espresso it really modernized my home. Food for thought...

For painting the railing. Would u restain the brown part darker and paint spindles black?? I always thought of doing that but wasn’t sure because all the cabinetry in my house is the same color as the banister.

I’m another that would do away with the stairway chandelier. I would go with an entryway chandelier that has its own presence with staying in step with your other lighting style. I love the idea of a sconce or lamp in the curve of your stair wall. :)

Seems there is a consensus to omit the stairway chandelier and find a fixture for your entry only. The architecture of your entry is still fairly traditional, so I would do something on the more contemporary side but not as overtly modern as say a sputnik style. Good luck!

I found another fixture. This is my personal favorite. The room it's shown in is not very modern, but this fixture could work with several different styles.
