Remodeling Flooring Design Dilemma

Paint concrete to match existing wood or concrete-look tile or not

Have engineered wood in living areas and kitchen. Concrete look tile (light grey with variation) in 3 bathrooms.
One bathroom touches hall. Hall touches foyer and kitchen. Foyer touches hall and kitchen. Master bath touches master bedroom (obviously) and master bedroom touches hall along with 3 other bedrooms.
Updating hall, foyer, and all bedroom floors. Bought exisiting wood floor over 12 years ago and can't find it, so that's out. But, do have enough extra wood floor to do foyer. Not trying to match existing wood nor have completely different wood floors in hall, foyer, or bedrooms. Not doing carpet.
I'm thinking I can paint floors to match color of existing wood or concrete look tile.
I'll add pics.
Ideas and opinions welcomed.

Painted floors never stand up to traffic I would need to see the space and the floor from all the other spaces.Bedrooms can be different from the other flooring but IMO your best choice would be to have the flooors in the hall and foyer to match the rest of the wood flooring . A good floor refinisher could make that happen Then the bedrooms could be matched to that or someting different.

Electric radiant floor heating is to warm the feet, not the room. If you plan on heating the home, pex tubing and some type of boiler is what you need. And sure you can install hydronic radiant heat tubing on top of an existing slab, but unless that slab is insulated, you're going to have constant heat loss to the soil and air where the slab is exposed to the elements. If you live in a moderately cold environment, the heat loss might not be so severe as to cost you that much money, but if you live in an extreme cold environment, your boiler may not do such a great job keeping you warm. Other than the heat loss to an uninsulated slab, the biggest drawback is the slow reponse time to change temperature. You're heating up a large radiant mass, and if it suddenly warms up outside, the home will be too warm and take several hours to cool down. The opposite happens if you are having a warm day, but it's cold at night. It takes time to come up to temperature. You learn to adjust to these quirks and how to use the thermostat to manage the temps most effectively, but if you are used to the instandt response of forced air, you may not care for radiant. If you're used to radiators, you've already got most of the temp control methods already figured out.

No I did not remove the tile except around the sink to remove the old sink. I built forms from wood but the wood on the front was removed after the concrete set for a couple hours and the wood underneath removed the next day. Here is a photo of the concrete in the pass through window after I removed the front mold part. I left the wood underneath to support the overhang until the concrete reached near full strength the next day. You can see some leakage on the right I had to chisel away later. If you do this, I highly recommend caulking all the molds - I only did some areas because I thought I had screwed the soft wood tight enough but I was wrong, the resulting leaks caused all my problem areas. I should have caulked all the seams on the wood molds and I would not have had the problem. The counters still look great after months of use, BTW! here are some pics of the molds: Big mess caused by leak- made painting the cabinets later a lot more work to sand off all that gunk. The leaks also created air gaps in the mold area I couldn't see until the concrete was set, I later had to hand trowel a thick mixture on those areas to repair it. It will never look as smooth as the mold-formed areas. My plan for next spring is to tile the backsplash if budget allows - the beadboard wallpaper is serving its purpose for now but tile will look nicer.

I have attached an ispirational picture i found on google to explain better. You would have three materials: concrete, a tile that matches the concrete, and a tile that appeals to you. In the pic the wood would be your concrete and you can see how they transition to tile and yet it is a cohesive design. The banding is shown in the tiled area, but it could be used on either side....I hope that explains what I was thinking

I think it's going to be hard to get a good answer when we can't really see what you have with such grainy and poorly lit pictures. Can you use a different camera a post better ones? You might also stand farther out in the yard, showing the new patio space with the old patio in the background. You mention that the patio is raised, but this cannot be seen in the picture. You need to show it so we can understand how it might have an impact, if it does. Also, what would make a difference is your plan. Do you have one that you can post so we can see the layout. If the white line is half-way accurate, I can't imagine that the end result is going to look good no matter what kind of surface or finish you use. It's too contra for me anyway.

Thanks, Patricia. I'll try to upload some pics. I was able to get one uploaded but the others won't.

Ok on painting. A friend of ours painted and sealed some of their floors a few years back and they still look great. I've read that textures can be different but color scheme should remain the same, or at least very close. Thoughts?

My main question, at this point, is whether I should match the rest of the house with a reddish-brown floor (regardless of material), without regard for the bathrooms, or consider the bathrooms and go light gray.

Fyi, the kitchen floor is coming up after the holidays and will be replaced with a hexagon tile. I'll upload a pic if I can. It's a Spanish / Mexican style tile with off-white, reds, rust, orange, etc. and matches existing wood. The flooring store manager suggested painting the hall and bedrooms white or light gray and do kitchen and foyer in this tile.
