Finding Room For Your Xmas tree
Comments (15)This is a good question. We live in a cottage with less than 700 sq.ft. We've had larger trees before, when we had less stuff, but as we've added pieces of furniture and more bookcases, we've run out of space. For the past few years, I've used a small tree set up on a table but I've missed a larger tree. A couple of years ago, someone threw out a perfectly good artificial tree 6' tall still together. Of course I grabbed it, took it apart and put it away. Then hurricane Wilma happened and a pine tree came down in out storage shed, and things were a mess in there for awhile until we did repairs, so last year, we used the small tree again. This year DH suggested using the larger tree, but leave off some of the back branches and put it up against a section of wall that is between two arches. We put some small steel weights in the stand to hold it upright and it looks great so far. I just put it together this morning, and had to leave for work, so tonight will be the fun part of stringing lights and decorating it. We also hang ornaments along the ceiling on the 1x2 wood that's along the ceiling. Tiny nails are about 4" apart and the ornaments look great up there. We've done this for probably 20 years at least. I'll post some pictures after I'm done decorating. Living in small spaces, we have to figure out ways to do things differently. I thought it was interesting that they now sell half trees to put up against walls. We had not seen this or heard of it. It's a great idea, and I'm glad DH got the idea to do this with our tree. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. FlowerLady...See MoreShow me your steamer trunks in your decor...
Comments (7)We have one at the foot of DS2's room. It holds extra blankets. I have NO IDEA what happened to the color in this photo--- the real color is a medium grayish gold, and the Ikat fabric is cream and olive green. (It is the same fabric, just reverse sides.) For context, here is the other side of the room: There is an English dresser made of dark scrubbed pine, and a desk we had made for the room with a leather Parson's chair and a club chair by the window with a small leather ottoman. This is the desk: It's an eclectic mix of new and old, and the trunk fits in pretty well....See MoreSome of your gals are famous for your Xmas tree pix,,,go look!!!
Comments (7)piper - Thank you for pointing this out. I am totally embarrassed about my tree. That's last years tree! Although I had trouble with this years tree, I now think it looks better than the last. LOL skypathway - I believe the article is focusing more on decorating ideas, than the looks of the trees. I had answered a question on a thread about how to put ribbon in a Christmas tree. The directions make me sound like an idiot... "Just stick it!" Oh my! Here is a photo of this years tree and the ribbon looks better, too!...See MoreCan you share your xmas tree pics?
Comments (73)i-chic: I want a tree like that! The pic of your son asleep under the tree with all those stuffies brought tears to my eyes. So, I can finally post my tree. As the chaos of our life continues I wasn't able to do much, but I really like it. It's the first time I've been able to do a "theme" tree - all red and silver. Sadly, the topper (a silver star you can just see) is too heavy for our little rosemary tree. From Christmas2008 Should I switch the angel and the frog to balance things? BTW, the tree is sitting on the hearth of our hideous fireplace (that will be completely redone some time in the hopefully near future. There's no mantle so our stockings are hanging from sconce holders on either side (you can see a bit of one on the right)....See Moreareyano_cs
