What size mirror over fireplace with no mantle?

The space above the fireplace is 58 inches. The fireplace is 61 inches wide. Would a 48 inch round mirror be too large? That would only leave 5 inches from the ceiling and 5 inches from the top of the fireplace. Is a 36 inch mirror more appropriate? The mirror is not decorative it has an infinity band around the edge and it is not beveled, it’s very simple. What size do you recommend?

Mirrors don’t just have to reflect something gorgeous on the other side of the room ... they’re art in their own right and are wonderful at reflecting light, adding dimension, and making a room feel bigger. Comments (2)What is missing here is the what you are doing with the mantle and a sample of the dark gray you are using for the walls. Just an FYI, dark gray can be fantastic. But, it also can be a drag. What gray have you chosen? And, in living/dining room, from what direction does the natural light come? 5 years agoIdeal size for wall art is 75% of width FP, your mirror is a little bit wider. IMO it would still work. Here is how it looks.
