Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the advice on using closet doors to keep out moisture. Probably would use pocket doors for 1 and 2, Bi-fold or sliding for 4, and Standard doors for 3 and 5. I like to use a pocket door where I can but realize there are drawbacks... e.g., you can't put electrical, plumbing or hang pictures on the wall hiding the door. This will be a major remodel. #4 is close to the current layout but the shower and toilet are together in a very small compartment and the sinks back up against the bedroom wall. We currently have two narrow doorways (no doors) for entry from the bedroom. If anyone is still reading... for option #2, would it seem odd to walk through the bathroom to get to closet? I could split the sinks apart and put the doorway in the middle, creating a hallway of sorts to closet. Alternatively, I could do the exact same bathroom along the back wall and put the closet in the front, but would lose the long, uninterrupted wall for closet rod. I favor #2 and #3 and I think the plumbing cost for number #2 would be less because everything is in one straight shot across an interior wall.

To some degree, it's personal preference, and sometimes, it just depends on how the house ends up. I can see benefits to both. I've never lived in a closet-first house, and I've lived in two bath-first houses. The production home I'm building now also has a bath-first arrangement. I like the idea of not needing to pass through the bathroom when I'm putting away laundry, but I also like the idea of a closer toilet (my husband gets up in the middle of the night). I am in the habit of gathering my clothing *prior* to showering, whereas my husband likes the closet adjacent to the shower so he can go get his clothes afterward. We also like the idea of connecting the closet to the laundry room, and then connecting the laundry to the kids' bathroom (via a door or a pass-through), which requires a [master bed --> master bath --> master closet --> laundry --> kids' hall bath] sequence. I also strongly prefer all bedrooms on the same wing/side of the house. Honestly, I could live happily either way... The houses I grew up in never had a master suite, so I feel lucky to have it. :-)

2x4 Studs are 1 1/2" x 3 1/2". Gypsum board used for interior walls are generally 1/2" thick. Interior walls are usually made if a stud (3 1/2") + a layer of gypsum board on each side (1/2" + 1/2") = 4 1/2". IF your drafter is dimensioning to the face of the stud, they are wrong. If they are dimensioning to the face of the gypsum board they are wrong. Somewhere there is 1/2" missing per wall. This might not be a problem . . . but it might be a problem. Either your builder is extremely frustrated or he is a saint and he is making the adjustments in the dimensions needed to keep you out of trouble. That is my expert knowledge. I like the reflection you'll get from the window onto your mirrors above vanity. I like the semi-private toilet allowing 2 in bathroom. What about doing a built-in linen as suggested (more of a cabinet than a closet), which means no door needed. Then move door to the bathroom up near all the other doors. You'd need a different kind of door - it puts all 3 in the same spot and you'll have door swinging issues, but a pro here could offer suggestions on that. Would love to see photos. Bermuda - wow :)
