How do I begin designing a tiled shower for a guest bath?--)
Comments (2)If you have a Tile Shop store in your area, they have several vignettes in them that are great for inspiration and tile websites usually have photo galleries available. I also did a Google search for images of tiled bathrooms, thumbed thru the bathroom books available at Lowe's and did searches here in the forum using words like "finished", "new bathroom" or "done". Houzz.com is also a great source for inspiration, however in our situation, I found the designs to be unrealistic for our budget. Also, the gallery side of the forum has a lot of examples too....See MoreGuest Bath - Shower Door or Curtain?
Comments (13)I should add that as a guest, I find it a bit tiresome to be confronted with a glass shower and the knowledge that I'm going to have to squeegee once I'm done. I think a curtain is kinder to guests in addition to being cheaper. ETA @cpartist, I've seen plenty of shower curtains in multi-million dollar homes. As a musician I get to see many guest baths in places I would normally never be invited as a guest. (They send me to a guest bath since the powder room is reserved for the real guests at the event.)...See MoreNeed advice on tile sizes floor pattern for guest bath/powder room

Comments (16)I am not a tile expert but I don't think newer regular ceramic tile is sturdier. It is manufactured in a different manner than porcelain with a lower firing temperature. Of course, you are probably also looking at ceramic tile that was installed years ago and so has had a lot of use. In a guest bath that is not used that much, it might not be a problem. If you have people showering or bathing, slip resistance is critical because the tiles are relatively large and don't have grout to provide a grippy surface. My bathroom tiles are marble but they are basketweave so they are small with lots of grout for my toes to stick to. Also install grab bars in the shower and/or tub for the safety of those using it. When I remodeled, I rented an apartment that had large slick towels and NO grab bars. I felt as though I was tempting death every time I used the bathroom....See MoreRelated Professionals
