sanded vs. unsanded caulk for backsplash
Comments (6)Actually, You'd be better off with the sanded caulk. I said what I said above more for the benefit of others who may go looking for unsanded caulking in the future and read this thread. The same rule oif thumb about when to use sanded and unsanded grout does NOT allpy to caulking. ALthough you CAN use an unsanded caulking if you wish, the whole point to having the two types of caulk is to match the grout as closely as possible, and the sanded caulking, in this case, would do a better job of that. I'd stick with what you have....See MoreUnsanded or Sanded Grout for Subway Tile Backsplash
Comments (1)Tec Power Grout or another urethane grout woud be my suggestion. It never needs sealing, and won't scratch most stone or glass. It also won't have the more difficult cleanup of epoxy, or the yellowing issue....See MoreBest grout for glass 4" x 12" backsplash in kitchen?
Comments (3)I just put in a glass tile backsplash, and used Laticrete Permacolor Select NS (for non-sanded). It is a 2-part grout - you buy the base, and the color. It does not need to be sealed, and is easy to use, but it sets up fast so if you have a large area I would recommend doing small batches. https://laticrete.com/en/our-products/tile-and-stone-installation/grouts/cementitious-grouts/permacolor-select-ns-grout-base Do your research on grout for glass - the sanded grout I first tried, scratched the sample board that I made. The Mapei site does not recommend Karapoxy for glass as it is 50-75% silica sand. This is from their website. Some glass tiles are more sensitive to scratching, such as glass tiles that have soft glass and glass tiles that have an iridescent finish. These delicate glass tiles should only be grouted with an unsanded grout like MAPEI Keracolor U. Adding MAPEI Grout Maximizer to Keracolor U will help to reduce the porosity of the grout and help to keep the grout clean. Other glass tile may work just fine with Ultracolor Plus FA or Flexcolor CQ, grouting a test area first and evaluating it for scratches is the best approach when dealing with glass....See MoreKitchen Back-splash - Glass tiles FALLING OFF
Comments (3)Here is a link to google, how that backsplash should have been installed. There are some u tube videos too. I watched one video, where they used grout, between the countertop and the backsplash, and grout should not be used there. Caulking shud be done between backsplash and countertop. My backsplash is also caulked in all the corners, rather than grouted. Once you watch these videos and read these articles, you will see that your thinset was put on improperly, and thats why your tiles are falling off. Please read carefully. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=uI4VW7HdLszKjwTtrqSoAw&q=how+to+install+glass+subway+tile+backsplash&oq=How+to+install+glass+subway+tile+&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0l3j0i22i30k1l3.3755.12143.0.14244.41.29.3.9.9.0.173.3348.9j20.29.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.41.3556...0i131k1j33i22i29i30k1.0.70wb9L5GlO8...See Moredamiarain
