Front door colour help - slow but steady improvements to curb appeal
Comments (18)jck910 - the storm door was both black and white, and the white parts would have been inaccessible to paint black. So we opted to paint the whole door white. I am really leaning toward leaving the front door white, just so that the storm and front door are cohesive. Thanks for the tip about the window boxes. I hadn’t thought about the upkeep. Decoenthusiaste - I think staining the brick is a little too ambitious for me, but thanks for the suggestion Bette P - the picture looks quite good, and on the side is a milk box turned mailbox! The shrub is a burning bush, I will trim that back in early spring. Good point that it should be below the window. Suezbell- the garden is looking better each year. I have a vision for an English garden, but I am not very good at bringing it to life. I have thought of replacing many plants and putting in more structured shrubs, particularly right by the walls of the house (ie. under the large window and next to the burning bush. The siding is white, but has turned a little yellow with age, except for under the large window (perhaps that is why it sticks out so much?)...See Moreadvice on exterior paint colors: front door, garage door, curb appeal
Comments (14)Snap a photo on a sunny day then use the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap app to play with the colors. I would select a tone slightly darker than your mortar for the garage door and a color slightly darker than your darkest brick for the front door. I would then on the garage door install magnetic faux hinges and windows; this will add detail to the door, like the below house. I know they can be found on Amazon, not sure where else. Comments (14)VV N there's quite a few things you can do to bring more of a mid century vibe to your house. you can start by looking up mcm ranch homes redo's. or mid century brick ranch upgrades. something along those lines. you have such a huge front yard, do something interesting w/it I like how these utilized short fences to give some dimension to the yard notice the garage door on this one too. start look at pictures of other garage door styles on these homes. Look at the large cement paver squares. you can DIY these you can't even see your front door. make a pathway to it and get rid those large bushes any of these color combos will work w/your existing brick. (if you want to paint the brick, let me know, otherwise, these will work) replace 'shutters' for the wood portion...See MoreImprove curb appeal of garage prominent house and hidden front door
Comments (13)The only construction change I would make is to box in the stone posts. To my eye they look very odd - just random shapes of stone glued onto the posts. Larger light between the garage doors. Good ideas above. I would just paint the garage doors and trim, not add fancy windows to them. You want to draw attention to the right side of the house, not draw attention to the garage doors....See MoreSusan Congdon
