How to choose LED grow lights? White Beads or Red & Blue Beads?

When you choose a LED grow light, you may pay attention to the following points.

1. Full spectrum

First of all, I would like to specify the functions of different wavelength.

--380~400nm UV and purple ray is good for plants to form pigments and vitamin D, absorb phosphorus and alluminum.

--400~499nm blue ray is the most important and promotes photosynthesis.

--500~599nm green ray is meaningful for morpholoy, therefore reducing the possibility of abnormal leaves, yellow leaves.

--600~699nm red ray is essential for flowing, fruiting and increasing weight.

--700~780nm FR is a sign for plants to regulate physiological activities.

Therefore, 380~780nm wavelength are all important to plant growth during different life stages.

2. White beads or Red & blue beads?

There are many LED grow lights on the market, if you search on shopping website, you would get confused facing numerous brands. But you could easily classify them into 2 catogeries: grow lights with white beads and those with red & blue beads.

Obviously, the white beads are more advancing than red & blue ones. Every white bead integrates 380~780nm wavelength, the light distribution is more uniform, every part of the plant can absorb unifrom full spectrum light.

On the contrary, the seperate red bead only has 630~660nm wavelength, the blu bead only has 440~460nm. What's more, their light is not uniform, some part of the plant absorb red light and some part absorb blue light...Can plants be healthy under this kind of grow light?

3. Ceramic or metal?

On the market, you can find grow lights made of ceramic or alluminum. Which one is better?

As we all know, alluminum is conductive to electricity, in order to be isolated, a PCB board must be placed under the LED chip, but this increases resistance and causes more heat.

Ceramic is different! Ceramic isn't conductive to electricity, LED chips can be molded directly on ceramic and it dissipates heat more efficiently than alluminum. The ceramic heat dissipation tecnology demands a lot, so only a few companies can do this.

Heat is vital! On one side, heat may burn and hurt plants, on the other side, heat will reduce LED chips' lifetime. In a word, ceramic grow light is more cost-effective.

Now, after reading this short article, you are an expert in LED grow lights, haha...
