Just be careful with the Xavan liner which we have. A rock was knocked to the bottom in Nov of 05. It created a leak and havoc as we had a whole pond of koi. We gathered some in another pond we have and put the rest in a kiddie pool in the basement and they all lived till the next April. The Xavan people were pretty hard to deal with when we called..life time guarantee doesn't mean much. They wanted me to cut a foot size piece and send it to them and they would determine if it was acceptable or not. Meanwhile if they decide not, then our liner is worthles. They sent us a seaming tape and we put it on and filled the pond up, put the fish back and the thing leaked. We went to HD and got some sort of cement glue ..really heavy duty stuff and patched the the leak up with a xavan piece and it's holding still.

I like cork in drawers. Things don't slide around but not sticky like rubber. It is thin so need to handle and cut with care, but once down and cut to the right size it stays put. (i think i got mine at pottery barn) I also have the semi-clear ribbed from Ikea that is nice for pantry shelves. Lower shelves and under the sink and in the broom closet i use black rubber mat. It is used for non-slip walkways...very heavy and doesn't show dirt for the spots that get mucky. I can take it out once a year and hose it off outside or give it a good scrub. Lasts for years. Hi, Wow. Thank you so much. Thank you for listening and advising and thank you for the details. ajsmama, I don't think I found any Contact paper without adhesive. I need to look at WalMart again. Here's what I did today, though: I went to Home Depot, again, and bought....... do not laugh . . . . vinyl floor remnants - pre cut remnants (yes, that is linoleum), with a backing, not very thick, 6' x 8' (I think) for $22. I remembered that I had used left-over vinyl 20 years ago for under the sink and for the major pots and pans cabinets. And it was still whole and not too yukky when we changed out the cabinets 6 weeks ago. So, I'm going to use that for the underneath spots and some pull outs. Then I went to Joann's and they have a HUGE assortment of stuff- all kinds of vinyl- didn't see cork-- cork was expensive at Home Depot, though, and with a backing. Anyway, I was all set to buy my vinyl stuff for the normal, not heavy duty places -- and the lady asked me if I had THE COUPON..... of course I didn't. She said it was 40% off of a fabric cut. So I went home to look for it and only found a 20 % coupon.....etc etc etc The quest continues. Vasue, thank you so much. I have to look into the cork more in detail tomorrow. I'll tell you one thing, KCboom, my cabinet shop (local one in Tucker GA) had never been asked about the lacquer issue....I think nobody lines cabinets around here. The Home Depot guys are not aware of it either and neither was I until I bought a bunch of awesome spongy white liner stuff at Lowe's and I was about to use it 2 days ago when I actually read the package label and saw the warning.....If so many people have varnish and lacquer (?) then why aren't there more liners for it? Ok. Tomorrow is the backsplash and the heavy sanding of the family room wood which had to be pulled out and re-installed because of so many worm holes. The backsplash and floor were not supposed to coincide, but hey, things happen. At least they do with us. good night and thank you.

Elfa wire shelving (from the Container Store) has the type of plastic lining you are thinking of, but I suspect its sizes won't match what you have. Cushy cupboards lining would be too flimsy for tools on wire shelving, IMO. Several suggestions: Use bins. My DH has commandeered a hall closet for a similar purpose as yours. Although the closet has wood shelves, he outfitted it with a number of sturdy shallow black plastic bins that hold all kinds of tools & parts. You can store a lot more in the bins than just on a shelf, plus they are all organized by type. The bins are also portable; you can pull out one or more for a project without disturbing the rest of the storage. These commercial style bins can be found from places like U.S. Plastic which has a catalog & website. You may not even need a liner if you use bins. Some bins are made to stack. If you still think you need a liner, consider getting thin pegboard type sheets (without the pegboard drilling) & saw it to fit the shelves.
