Garbage Disposal and Dish Washer off Switched outlet?
Comments (7)I would not even try to cut in to the K&T or add to the circuit at all. A dishwasher should usually be on a separate 15 or 20 amp circuit, I would maybe think about putting it on with the disposer if you were aware not to use them together and they were on more modern wiring. Highly suggest that you leave the K&T alone since K&T is most dangerous when it has been modified incorrectly or overloaded. Instead go get some 12/2 romex cable and pull a new circuit to the new dishwasher from your breaker panel. If your home still is using a fuse box then you need to hold off on the dishwasher project and get a new breaker panel installed first. if your homes K&t wiring is ok and not damaged or unsafely modified your electrician can just put all the k&t circuits on 15 amp breakers if your local code allows k&t to be still in use. I am in an older home that still had some K&t when I bought it. now I have it down to only a few circuits and those are mostly just running lighting and ceiling fans that were in the house. I had to add circuits to the upper levels. I am adding a dishwasher my self very soon too and I will just put a new beaker in for it....See MoreBest Reasonably Priced Washer/Dryer
Comments (5)There are differences in TLs. First of all most use a lot less water. SQ is the only one of the old school washers left that use a full amount of water. We use them in our business because nothing cleans the way they do. We have tried multiple machines of different kinds. We used a Maytag Bravo last year on vacation and were not impressed. The agitation was minimal and baby clothes just did not get as clean. The build on the SQ is also old school. You might pay a little more up front and no chimes but you will get a washing machine in all the best sense of the word. We also have allergies and appreciate the great rinse....See MoreSuggestions for finding fair building prices?
Comments (1)How much your addition will cost will depend entirely upon what is contained within it and where you live. $300 per square foot can be considered cheap if this is New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles etc...even in this poor economy. $300 per square foot can be 'cheap' if this is for a kitchen with granite counters and custom cabinets, and imported tiles. --------------- Since you don't even know where to begin with finidng contractors for this job, it would be best left to a single general contractor to do from start to finish. 'Self-contracting' can often result in a project taking longer and costing more when the owner has no experience. Ask friends whom they have used and recommend.......See MoreWhat kind of Dish(washer) detergent is best?
Comments (18)Most all evaluations I've see rates virtually all of the Cascade powders very highly. Some of the liquids with enzymes rate highly too. Some of the Electrasol/Finish come in good. The Walmart Great Value line also rated very highly in tests that included it. But the things to keep in mind, look for enzymes in the detergent. I use dishwasher detergent as a laundry booster and get the stuff with enzymes in it. Great Value had it. However, I was reading somewhere in the past couple weeks that they don't have enzymes in it anymore, but I haven't verified that so check the box - it'll say. Most all Cascade products have enzymes and some of the Finish have them. I've been buying the $1/box SunSations at Walgreens (also available at most dollar stores) and it has enzymes and works well for my needs. When there's enzymes in there, they work better. The enzymes eat away the food particles essentially. However there's many other important criterias. You must load the dishwasher properly so the spray hits it right. Many people don't do this and blame the machine for pilot error. Higher temperature water of course will help melt off grease and stuff. And you can overload a dishwasher too. You shouldn't rinse dishes before washing them. Scrape and put them in there and let the dishwasher do the work and let the enzymes work. If there's nothing to eat, the enzymes can etch the dishes/glassware. It never hurts to try a few different brands and see if it works differently for your situation. Btw, I didn't think southerners washed dishes... thought they just let the 3-legged dogs under the porch lick them clean! ;)...See MoreBruce in Northern Virginia
