Comments (31)Kcc - Don't know whether or not you're in the minority here, but you are not alone! If you're concerned that the gray is drab and will make you feel claustrophobic, listen to your instincts. Just because gray is the chic color of the moment does not mean that it's right for you or your room. Gray is a very difficult color. It will make a room look like the interior of a submarine if the furnishings and other colors are not close to perfectly done. In addition, you have that large beautiful window. What kind of climate do you have? Gray days, rainy days? Imagine being in a home with dogs and a small child on a gray drizzly day with gray walls (and brown drapes) framing the view. I would paint all the walls, except for that nice red one in your dining room, a rich, deep cream - or, as others have suggested, a gold that would look good with your tan furniture. Those colors would keep the room bright and cheerful. Are you very attached to that rug? Could you put it somewhere else in your home? IMO it's the one element that's throwing everything else off. The colors and style don't coordinate with the rest of your furnishings and wall colors. Could you try going with bare floors for awhile? Then eventually get an oriental rug that contains all your colors - gold and tan and red and some blue/green. This would pull everything together and warm up the space. And it would also better hide what the doggies and baby might do to it!...See MoreLiving Room decor/color help please!
Comments (43)Charley Lovely home & LR I am peaking into ? sitting room - are there 2 matching bergere style chairs in there? hmmmm - can you put them flanking the FP in close to the hearth Try one of the 2 chairs you just brought in by the window to balance out that area - corner where the plant is sitting. I think your choices are lovely coral - sage, but not sure together & with the rug - the rug is reading gold toned with sage, navy accents - & I think it may fight your fabric choices. The current ottoman just blends right into the rug - so light fabric choices may do the same. I would rec obtaining samples placing them in the room before making decisions about fabrics. Thanksgiving is just a week away - that is a huge undertaking to be doing all this upholstering by then. In the rush you may make hasty decisions that don't necessarily work. If you plan to re-do the sofa - I would choose that fabric first - although it looks in good condition & picks up on the green in the rug. Perhaps some nice throw pillows with navy there. Comments (5)I would start out with a large, beautiful rug in warm colors (terracotta or red Oriental rug mixed with other colors. I feel sectionals often confine you in how to organize your room. I would choose a fabric couch in a neutral, not too dark color (not gray, which is on its way out and not a warm color), and add two chairs in a different color or at least a different material and style. Try to keep the height of these pieces similar. Two end tables in wood (they don't have to be the same, but make sure the heights are fairly similar and a metal and glass coffee table would look great, with table lamps or floor lamps even if you have overhead lighting, which is always harsh. Pick colors from the rug for pillows and you'll have a beautifully coordinated living space. Books, good paintings and some tall plants will add warmth and personality to your room. People too often don't add these elements and then wonder why their rooms look bare and cold. This may be more colorful than you want to go. and this is a small rug because there is carpeting underneath, but it gives you the idea of neutral furniture and how it can be made more lively with accessories, pillows, coffee table styling etc....See MoreHelp me decorate my living room - Desperate help needed!
Comments (51)Hello friends. I am afraid I need your help once again! We have finally settled on a new sofa, accent chairs and the place we are getting all of this from has agreed to also throw in a rug for us if I happen to like one from their suppliers. I fell in love with a rug they have as well as accent pillows I think will match well. We have also decided on the color of the accent chairs and the model of the sofa. My issue : I CANNOT decide on a sofa color!!! Everyone is telling me to do light grey but I am afraid it won't go with the rug I like. I am swayed towards a white sofa (it is more off white, I will post a picture of the swatch bellow) in order to flow with my chairs and everything else. I had spoken to the designer who did our plan and she said I can go with a white sofa no problem. Everyone is saying do light grey. I know I can pick another rug but I am SO In love with the one I have chosen and I think it will make the space... Can anyone advise me on what to do? I do like a light grey sofa but I also really like the colors in the rug...We have to order this week in order to make it in time for Christmas and I am very undecided. You have all been so helpful and if you aren't utterly sick of me, I would appreciate the advice! Here is the link to the sofa we have chosen: https://mikazahome.ca/product/sevan/ We will get the 89 inch modification sofa with a 9 inch arm on one side (you can see example in the photos) and a 5 inch on the other end. Legs will be like in the second photo on the side. Here is a swatch of the white that we had chosen (ignore the leather, it is the material swatch next to it). Photo of the accent chair: Photo of the rug: Accent pillows: We are also hesitating for the accent chairs - there is another chair we like but it is not as much of a good quality as the one above. I will insert a photo here - feel free to let me know which one would be better. In other words, which chairs? Which color sofa? Do I go with light gray sofa and change the rug or go with off white sofa? Thank you!...See Morecctuttle
