Blackout curtain rods - easy to remove curtains?

(Second attempt at posting this query so apologies if duplicate post.)

Need curtain rods with a return for blackout curtains. The ones we bought require us to unscrew them from the wall if ever we want to remove the curtains for cleaning. That will wear on the wall. Surely something simpler exists?! I looked at HD and IKEA websites and didn't find anything. Don't have the money to venture into custom territory. Thanks for any help.

I just looked up the Umbra product on the BBB website and it has decent ratings. I haven't found many rods have the wrap-around ends that sensibly would be needed to eliminate light gaps for window arrangements BUT when I used the word "wrap" in my searching it was more productive than using room darkening curtain rod, or the like.

Bumping this because I don't think the solution I found will work.

These are the initial rods I bought.

It seems as if we must unscrew the rods from the wall if we need to remove the drapes.

The Umbra twilight room darkening rods I found (pic below) might not be the best solution either. Lifting the rod out of its "nest" attached to the wall risks damaging the paint on the wall.

Could someone please tell me what's the best way to hang blackout curtains?

Rods come with extenders so the width won't be a big issue. Stores like JCP, Bed Bath & Beyond or even Lowe's have those. I got mine at Lowe's, the prices were really affordable and the selection had what I was looking for. Grommet shears are a pretty common staple at the stores, but if you want billowy with a little weight to them I'd go with Pottery Barn's, though pricy, their grommet shears are really pretty. I would also check Ikea, they are budget friendly and usually have something like a long shear in stock at affordable prices.

Curtains for traverse curtain rod

I don't know a lot about drapery hardware, but the traverse rods that Lowes sells have clips built into the rod. So, you can use any curtain you can clip on to. I generally use rod pockets or back tab panels because I am "thrifty" ;)

I think the rod should be about 4 feet wide gives you about 6 inches on each side so you can pull curtains to the side. One curtain could work if it was wide enough (4' if you go with that rod size) but would not look good IMO. If you are leaving that shade in the window you could maybe go with a dark grey or dark blue curtain instead of a black out and it would still darken. for height you have to figure how much space is below the window and account for the rod being mounted higher than the window. guessing from the picture you will probably need 95" inch long curtains

I had to try many different panels before I found a true blackout for my son's bedroom. BBB only had grommet types in the store and so I ordered the back tab Eclipse 100% Blackout in polyester velvet charcoal color. In the stores, I used my phone's flashlight feature to test fabric! Good luck.

Karenmo, those rods didn't work for us and I ended up contacting a designer and getting a semi-custom solution.

How important is that little slice of light you may have with just regular rods?

Not as important as initially thought, ritasj. We went with something like this with wave drapery, Karenmo.
