Over dining table--recessed cans or fixture?
Comments (2)Randall Whitehead, a lighting designer recommends that if you put a chandellier over the center of the table that you put a small spot on each side and position the lights so they shine to the opposite side of the chandellier. This is difficult to explain without a photo. Do you understand what I'm talking about? He says this will give even light over the entire table surface. I'm going to do it and see what happens....See MorePlease help me find chairs/light for dining/breakfast table
Comments (11)Thanks for the feedback, yayagal and walnut creek. I was beginning to get nervous about the black. I don't know if you looked at the Thomas armchair, but that is quite simple. When not in use, I was going to place them in front of the window where the low red/goldish chairs are now. I was getting them in a pretty seafoamish-sage green because all my furniture in the adjoining family room is cream. To go with them, I was thinking of these aimple mission style side chairs, in black, but maybe now to match the table, with the same green upholstery seats. Thoughts, photos? Here is a link that might be useful: Mission chairs...See MoreCenter light over dining table, right?
Comments (31)get another light on the longer chain-canopy stays where it is, the chain gets hooked right over the middle of the table. Doesn't work with every kind of chandelier, but some look fantastic (also was suggested-sorry-reading all the comments as I go) Can I get a pic of an example of this? I'm having a hard time picturing It also will look different from different points where you standing in the room . I agree, unfortunately from the entrance, and from the couch the symmetry is off. I may end up just having to deal, but it does bother me. can you remove the molding in the DR? It's a Craftsman home, so the molding is part of the appeal, I'd really rather not remove it. you can have a free-shaped branch type of light..a dream of mine. They are ridiculously expensive though. Great, something new to lust over. :) These are not in the budget I'm afraid, but gorgeous, and I think it would look amazing in this house....See MoreDeciding what light fixture to purchase over breakfast table?
Comments (20)princemurtuza- Well, well, well. There are some rather apt sayings I will quote- "One man's meat is another man's poison." "There is no accounting for taste." I am not fond of fixtures with transparent glass because the glare from the bulbs gives me a headache, and with the amount of time one spends in the kitchen, that is absolutely a no-go, for me at least. I prefer glass that is not transparent. princemurtuza- There are a lot of fixtures that are just gorgeous and not quotidian, you just have to be willing to hunt them down, and pay $$$ for them. The best thing for you to do is to go online and look at the really high end lighting companies and try to narrow down what style that you like. Just create virtual "idea boards" for yourself, don't even look at the prices. After you've looked at several luxurious brands products and made virtual collages for yourself, you should notice some sort of commonality in your choices. Then you can narrow down to the specific shape, style and material that you like. Once you've done that, then if you would like some advice from the folks here on Houzz, then upload the photos of the things you are thinking about, so we have several items to choose from. At that point, you know what you are looking for, and then you can find something that most closely resembles that in quality and style at a place you can afford. And by the way, when you are on Houzz and ask for advice /opinions, advice and opinions are what you'll get. And you may not like or agree with them or find them helpful. If you want someone to pat you on the head and tell you exactly what you want to hear, you are in the wrong place. If you paid a decorator money and she/he told you only what you wanted to hear, you'd be throwing your money away....See MoreRelated Professionals
