Home Decorating Design Dilemma home office

Please, Help to decorate a home office!

Hi Everybody!

I'm planning a home office for two people. We are looking for a modern, calm and organized space. Currently, the floor is light wood and white walls. Do you have any idea of how I could use the space above the desks? the color of the walls, the decoration? All the furniture would be white. I'm sending you simulations I made with an Ikea program. Thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions.

I would place desks perpendicular to walls, not up against a wall. Several things to consider: will you be meeting with clients in this space, or is it a home office to house computers, printers, etc. The difference is that you will need seating for clients. Perhaps you can give more information.

Hi Pam, Thank you so much for your answer. it’s a home office for only two people. We don’t have meetings with clients.

Beautiful trim, gorgeous floor the current color will work of course. Going more mid-tone can be pretty amazing too Is the apartment yours, or is it rental? I'm asking because I'd be inclined to go with custom shades as not to obscure that trim..but of course only if the place is mine And I'd pick probably woven grass ones. Shades of natural brown, you know? Or you can go with fabric too. But if the walls stay light-I won't go too dark. Same with curtains. Or. If it's curtains..look at many..you might get inspired by the color you see in ones you like a lot, and "borrow" similar one for your walls. Rug can become an inspiration too. Again, you really don't have to repaint to get the vibe you want.

A chair (or two) with an ottoman and a table would be great, especially if you are sometimes able to work while sitting in a chair with your coffee, tea (wine) on the table next to you. Is there any way to turn the desk so your back is not to the door and windows? That would bother me. It seems the shape of the desk fits the the way you have it but I wonder if you could turn and float it? If that worked then you also would be able to sit at the desk and talk with someone else in the new chair....I do see you don't have clients but I know my DH comes into my office and we chat. I don't work from home but bring work home and he sometimes comes in while I am finishing stuff up.

What if you turned the desk so the person sitting is facing out rather than looking into the mirror. Look into getting a square rug for the space. what about some floating shelves for storage on the bike wall? What is around that corner? I would take out everything you don’t absolutely need and start from there. Be ruthless. In my experience, it’s more comfortable as a guest to sleep on good quality air mattress than most hideabeds. (So if you need justification to get rid of the sofa, you can try that ;) I would also move the printer off the desk (and onto a side table). I’m surprised there is so little paperwork and books. (Maybe that’s hidden). Maybe get a low bookshelf to store stuff like that. I suggest googlIng different offices to see what appeals to you, in terms of functionality and design. Good luck.

If you pull the desks away from the wall, and place storage behind your office chair, you can easily swivel around to that storage. As far as the walls go, I would wait until you were comfortable with the desk placement and then do a grouping or two of photos, or art. But I would also encourage you to purchase art from your local gallery to support the local talent. You could then find something that has color and movement to finish the space. Don't forget to get two plastic mats for under those chairs to save the flooring. And a big floor plant would love that window.
