Came Home with Floor Model Miele Dishwasher- Need advice!!
Comments (13)I thought I would give a dishwasher update... - We decided on a self-install. My husband (and I) decided to do away with the hardwired set up that we had with our useless GE Profile and install a GFCI receptacle in the adjoining undersink cabinet. Plugged it in as was intended. Looks and works professionally. - We swapped out the shut off valves under the sink for newer/better ones because the hot water one began leaking with all the new activity under the sink. No more leaks. - Attaching the hoses was nothing at all, because we had already had a professional installation on our last DW. - Leveling and screwing in the dishwasher was a breeze. Very easy to do on the Miele. Total cost of install including new shut off valves and GFCI receptacle- $35. No paying top dollar for bad installers, no damage to anything, no waiting for installation, etc. MIELE OFFICIALLY (as of about 2 years ago I was informed by Miele) NO LONGER GIVES THE EXTRA ONE YR WARRANTY FOR CERTIFIED INSTALLATION. I will take the year to decide on the extended warranty. I doubt we'll get it. I decided to use Finish Quantam tabs and will use neither salt nor rinse aid. If Miele suggests putting in some salt, then I'll do it. I RAN MY FIRST (waaaaay long) CYCLE last night! Woke up this morning to CLEAN dishes. Imagine that! No white spots all over the silverware. No rewashing at least 5 or 6 items- or the entire load (often by hand!!). No tiny ground up particles stuck all over every piece. No having to manually align the top plastic spray arm "tube" to the back wall of the dishwasher...and on and on. I am elated. Everything was dry except for some small plastic items that had overturned!! How I love that silverware rack...I did miss the ability to glance at the top of the DW to see how much time was left without opening it, as on the GE. It seems I have to open the Miele in order for the readout to come on...or am I doing something wrong? Also, even though the detergent dispenser was dry, my Quantam tab barely made it into the bottom of the tub. Nothing was in the way of it dropping. It had stuck mostly out of the way of the water, but I caught that in the first part of the cycle because I kept checking for problems. Any tips on that? I didn't have much luck with these tabs in my other DW either. A note on Miele service: So far, corporate office (Princeton, NJ) has impeccable service. As per a supervisor, they are shipping me a new handle free of charge because the included overly large and bulky handle clashed with the fingerprint-free stainless panel- and with my other appliances. It took one phone call from me. The supervisor wants to make sure that I'm happy with the DW and has already called me twice. And for $1100, I got the G5575SCVi that INCLUDED the SS panel and the handle. From what I gather from the web, the going price seems to be $1699 BEFORE adding on a few hundred dollars more for the panel and handle! Guess we did get a good deal. So far I am thrilled...not only with the quality of the dishwasher itself, but with Miele as a company; especially after living in DW hell for over two years...LOL. I wouldn't have been able to make the DW decisions that I did without all of the input! Thank you all!!...See MoreMiele dishwasher Seeking recommendations for which model to buy
Comments (18)Everyone is entitled to express their opinions. xedos is one of the most knowledgeable, reliable and trusted contributors to this forum for many years. But declarations like "The Asko is world above the Miele in every way!" are opinion, not fact. I had an Asko washer that needed a controller board which could not be purchased -- not anywhere in the world. I even tried to get one in Australia. The washer had been used full time for only 2 years. I had a Viking kitchen that has been slowly replaced over the past 10 years -- every appliance purchased for the kitchen had some repair issue, chief among them the oven which was bought back. Heat setting decals are now beginning to wear off the third cooktop as they did on the previous two. The refrigerator had a freon repair (equivalent to heart surgery) 3 door recalls for hinge failure, a new controller board and failed door seals. The vent hood draws, which is as much as one can say. No one here is making money off recommendations in any way. What you call "bashing" is hardly that from an owner who has been obliged to replace expensive appliances within 10 years. xedos gets that. Glad to hear your Viking range is working well. Hope that continues because if it's older than 2 years and you need a part you will see why some of us urge caution with brands like Asko and Viking that have unfortunate history....See MoreMiele Futura dishwashers (2011 models)
Comments (29)I was able to stop at the local appliance store and too a few pictures of the new Futura models. Here is the front of the Diamond that replaces the LaPerla, but it doesn't have the wood-cabinet face installed yet. The bottom basket on the Diamond. All the spikes on the front fold down (see the orange clips). Middle basket on the Diamond. Not a lot has changed here since the LaPerla. Here's the new 3D Cutlery tray. I like how the two sided can move back and forth to make room for larger glasses. But the middle part that moves up and down is sort of a gimmick, there's really no reason why you wouldn't just leave it in the lower position. Here s the bottom rack on the Crystal, which replaces the Diamante Plus. Differences here the Diamond are that there isn't as much foldable spikes on the front, and not as many fold down stemware slots on the sides. I didn't take pictures of the middle and upper rack on the Crystal, since those are identical to what is on the Diamante that I own. The Crystal does not have the 3D Cutlery tray. This is the front of the Classic G2505 that replaces the Inspira. The lower rack on the Classic. This one on display has the cutlery basket instead of the cutlery tray on top. It also doesn't have any fold-down spikes on the front, or the side stemware holders. And here's the Futura model comparison sheet. If I didn't already have the Diamante and was going to buy one, I'd probably go with the Dimension or Dimension Plus, since those have a majority of the features and are still in the $1600-1800 range, which is $1000 less than the Diamond....See MoreDishwasher broke pre-reno! Which Miele to Buy?
Comments (16)Thanks for the input. I like hearing real life experience. I haven't found many reviews online. Our reno should have been done years ago. We've been living in this house almost 7 years with a really gross old dysfunctional wallpapered kitchen. I refused to do anything to it, even paint, because I knew we would be tearing it out to the studs. So now we are finally, finally! building cabinets (we are woodworkers) and the dishwasher, the last appliance left from the previous owner in the entire house, goes. After looking at the Miele website, I think I want the Dimension G 5505 SCi. I like that it takes a custom panel, it doesn't have a bar/handle that sticks out and the control panel is on the outside. I like being able to see what options I selected while it's running and I'm hoping it counts down the time remaining like my old dishwasher. Not sure if it does that, but the picture shows a time and "duration". It's okay if it's obvious that there is a dishwasher there (the visible control panel), just thought the wood would blend a little better with the cabs than stainless. That side of the kitchen is cab, range, cab, sink, dishwasher, cab. So thought would be one less interruption of the flow. If I were to get SS that clean touch SS sounds great! I wish my fridge was like that. I don't really care if it's "naked" for now without the panel. You should see our kitchen, really ugly. A naked dishwasher would fit right in. If we really wanted to, we could build the panel right away, but I would rather not and do it all at once. Last night my DH looked at the dishwasher and surprise, the shut off valve under the sink is frozen stuck. Can't shut it off to take the dishwasher out. The sink, dishwasher, everything is getting rearranged when we do the reno. I really don't want to waste money on a plumber fixing up this old situation that will only be ripped out soon anyway. So I'm thinking I may just have to hand wash for now. I did a dishwasher load last night and it wasn't all that bad. I can just see it becoming an inconvenience. domino3- I think your kitchen IS sending you a message! Listen to the warning signs and get your plan in gear. Don't wait YEARS! like I did....See MoreSammy
