Typically leaf footed plant bugs love pomegranates. They have a piercing mouthpart that they use to sip fluid from the fruit. In the process they introduce bacteria that can contribute to sour fruit or spoilage. This insect produces eggs that hatch into young that resemble the adults unlike other insects that have a complete metamorphosis (egg, caterpillar, pupae, adult). Live Wire is correct about the sealer being driven into the slab. It needs scarification. As to the cracks...Horizontal displacement can be addressed while vertical displacement precludes a tile floor, it just does. If the former, I would Ditra or Greenskin the floor, assuming it's flat. Variation shouldn't be more than 1/8" over any ten foot span...or you'll need to grind/fill to achieve this. Both of the above products act as a decoupling membrane to accomodate any lateral movement and cracks developing in the tile. Measure the smallest and the largest tiles you can find. Whatever the size variation, multiply that by three. That number is the MINIMUM grout width that can be used. (1/8" variation equals 3/8" minimum joint) Smallest trowel is about 1/4x3/8" Try that, put down a couple of tiles and remove one to check for coverage....shoot for 100%....80% is acceptable. If less than that, move up one trowel size. "Flat Burn" the tiles before setting....

Dodge59, not what you mean about a chip on my shoulder. The "planned decor" comment was meant to be jacose. I am definately a patina/rustic person. I have spent time in Europe and fell in love with all the beautiful marble that has been around for hundreds of years as steps that people walk on no less. I plan to use my marble, know there are going to etches and scratches. I would prefer to not have huge chunk of the edge fall off and wondered if anyone else had encountered this problem. I banged my current chairs against the flat edge of a sample and it didn't chip. Sounds like gharborwa actually has had marble/ swivel barstools for 18 months and has not noticed issues. Katie, is this Plaster? If it is, it is the cause could be anything. Unkeyed plaster separated from the lath due to a seasonal movement, lumber drying and shrinkage or a stress crack caused by to much stuff in the attic, etc Most common cracks in plaster are cosmetic unless you see more signs of failure, on the floor below or in the basement like foundation crack, beam/floor settlement, etc. Cracks in plaster less than 1/8-inch thick are considered to be stress cracks and pretty much a normal occurrence and cracks over 1/4" considered to be more serious and should be investigated... On your picture, it looks cosmetic, if this was the connection point where the new extension was connected to the main house, most likely the new lumber dried up and made the plaster loose the grip and over time with seasonal changes it got worst...I would add some screws to secure the plaster if its lose, clean out the crack, fill it with caulk and leave a slight indentation, let it dry and tape and patch the ceiling and keep an eye on it.
