Comments (7)Thank you so much everyone for your comments. I was leaning towards the first or second fixture because they have halogen lighting, and I read that halogen lighting is best for the bathroom. However, I've been hesitant because I'm not crazy about the style. Those are out. Now it's between the third and fourth fixtures. I'm going for a more contemporary look in the bathroom, so I prefer the style of the fourth fixture. Can polished brass be contemporary? The downside is that I would have to get it in polished brass to go with the rest of my bathroom, and I think the brass takes away from the contemporary look. Would chrome look okay? My shower door and tub fixtures are all polished brass, but the sink faucet and cabinet knobs are two toned brass and chrome. The sink and tub are about 8 inches apart. I like the third fixture because it is two-toned, but the look is a bit traditional. Athensmomof3 (love that name), my medicine cabinet is directly above the sink. I've been looking at make-up mirrors. It's too late to get one that's hardwired. I've seen a lighted mirror that plugs in, and you can remove the cord from the mirror when it's not in use. I might get that one....See MoreChoosing Appropriate Bathroom Fan CFM
Comments (6)The normal rule is at least 1 cfm per square foot of room but I agree, 80 or 100 (get a quiet model) should work better than a small capacity one. I just had a quiet Delta model installed in a small bathroom. It had a switch for (I think) either 80 or 110 CFM. I asked the installer to set it for 110. It's almost silent and works very well. It's so quiet, they put a small green LED indicator light visible through the grill so that you can tell if it's on or not. Remember that for air to exhaust a house, there has to be air let into the house. If your house doesn't have some form of make up air system (like a HRV), you need to remember to crack a window nearby. If the bathroom doesn't have an HVAC air vent in it (whether or not on when showering), you need to be sure there's enough of a gap under the door to let in air. If it's off a bedroom, same would be true for it when the fan is in use unless you crack open the window in the bedroom. It can be useful to use a timer switch for the fan. Let it run at least 20-30 minutes after a shower so that not only the humidity is exhausted from the room but so too the moisture that may have condensed in the duct. Also, at the risk of stating something obvious, be sure the duct run terminates outside the house and not just into the attic....See MoreOh my goodness I need help on design for our bathroom. Comments (6)Sativa has a good idea for a high contrast design but I might be overwhelmed too much dark black. It would need the balance of lighter floors and the natural light from the windows which could make it stunning. I bought the same pebble tile at our local H H Restore to re do our tiny shower. I want bright white tile like your subway tile but hubby still wants a large format porcelain. The mix from the pebbles can work with many things. Remember when it is sealed the colors will deepen to what it looks like wet. You could use a midtone like the charcoal grout for your floor tile if you are keeping the walls lighter like a warm white, tape or grey from the pebbles. If you go with dramatic black walls, you need a lighter grey ,taupe or warm white for balance. With either color scheme choose a basic floor tile with a bit of texture to prevent falls. A rectified porcelain with touches both cool grey and warm whites and taupes would work with lots color schemes. Keep in mind you may change your style in a few years. So pick a classic with lots of options. It will be easier to change a dramatic paint color than a busy tile pattern....See MoreMrs. S
