Subway tile is up, grouting tomorrow, is Linen grout too dark?
Comments (8)Thank you all for your wonderful advice. We decided to call the tile guy early this morning and play it safe and just go with the white grout. I just figured I rather be safe than sorry! : ) I will try to post pictures tomorrow of the longest kitchen remodel in history, almost two years, but who is counting, besides me! Thanks again for all your advise~...See MoreDark tile, grout too light?
Comments (6)Personally, I think it looks great! I'm a fan of the crisp, clean, polished look tho, especially in a bathroom. If you haven't already had it redone and haven't fallen in love with it yet either, you should think about painting it yourself.. I've been doing some home improvement stuff here lately, bathrooms first, and my tile was disgusting.. Came across a blog post about Polyblend grout paint.. Long story short, turned my disgusting stained gross grout into new beautiful clean grout the very next day. Oh, for like, $12. I have no idea how I've not known about this stuff before now, but it was the easiest thing ever an made a world of difference. Available in 6-8 different colors. Google it if you are still unhappy with your bathroom, once you see some before and afters you'll be sold. :) & on a side note I love the wood flooring too! Gorgeous!...See MorePoor tile/grout job? Advice please for dark grout
Comments (17)I would use white caulk in the corners, not gray. This is because the tile layout should look like the tiles bend around the corners. i.e., half a tile on either side of the corner, or 1/4 on one side and 3/4 on the other side. So a contrasting caulk would cut the tile visually and eliminate the illusion of the bending tile. Also, always caulk, not grout, when you have changes of plane. Finally, as others mentioned, you should not have slivers of tile on the ends or corners. You fix this by shifting the tiles. So on the RH side (I assume this is your first photo), the pattern should be shifted 1/2" to the left, so that in the corner you have full tiles or half tiles, every other row. Then on the left corner the tiles will all be pushed down 1/2" so that the wrapped around portion that's now about 1" becomes 1 1/2" wide....See MoreYet another wood-look tile/grout color question
Comments (6)Neither. I like a lighter one, but not the one you picked. that one is too red. And for sure I would NOT go dark. Mapei, left, two on the right are Custom Products. I like these colors better. this is their Dapple Gray Merona tile. your lines will be like this. but notice how the grout color is an exact match. neither too dark or too light. light grout. more rustic looking tile, same grout spacing, darker color. I think w/this flooring you could get away w/a darker grout color because of the darker veining colors. this one used a darker grout, but the grout lines are thinner. I wouldn't like it if it had the thicker joints Merona Natural tile....See MoreJAN MOYER
