Bedroom furniture design ideas
We have beautiful Mission bedroom furniture that my husband made when we were married. We are going to get rid of the tall armoire so we can put a reading chair in the corner. Then he would build a short and wide dresser/console below where the TV is. It would need to hold some sweaters and off season clothes- cabinets or drawers are fine. Here's where the dilemma occurs- I'd like to start updating the overall look of the room (I lean mid century modern) but he loves the Mission look. Since he owns a custom hardwood furniture company, he does not want to make anything that is painted, antique, etc. I need design help! How can we blend our styles in the new piece? We want a design that will showcase wood but with simple lines. Exotic woods, bookmatching, live edge, contrasting wood, etc are all possible. His metal worker can customize metal elements if needed. We plan to keep the Mission bedside table and dresser, but will eventually replace the bed with a softer headboard. Please send any photo ideas our way! Comments (45)mammapinky Yes, they are. I did that on purpose. I wanted a different illusion than just the mirrors hanging, if that makes sense. I want the mirrors and curtains anchoring the bed, like a headboard. Thank you! To everyone mentioning the mirror height, don't tell my husband! (lol) He absolutely hates hanging curtains, shelves, mirrors and paintings. haha I'll have to wait to the weekend or a day we both have the time and we shall raise them. I'll have to ease him into it. ;) Should they go the same height as the curtains? Comments (6)HI. Here is what I suggest: 1) Remove the shelves. 2) Instead of centering the bed, move it more toward the back (sliding door). Leave enough space for a shelf or nightstand. 5 years agoHere is how I blended a mid-century cherry console and a shakerish coffee table with some mission furniture. I think if you emphasise the clean lines and quality of the wood the styles get along very nicely. I would keep the mission you have and add some mid-century as you go along

5 years agoWhat about mixing the angle of the blue chair with the mission style arms on the white? I always think of round shapes for MCM and straight lines for mission.
