Window placement in bedrooms
Comments (13)When we were building, we designed our window placement around our the bedroom furniture we knew we'd be keeping, and chose your option #2. The only difference in our upstairs windows vs. our downstairs windows is that we decided on 4' tall windows for upstairs instead of the 5' tall windows we have downstairs. That way, there is a little more privacy for the bedrooms and there is an inch or so of wall between the bedside tables and the lower window trim (so the furniture doesn't overlap with the windows). I love your last example with the long drapes going behind the bedside tables... I hadn't thought of that but think it looks beautiful. I also don't think the last example looks like overkill if that is going to be the only wall in your bedroom with windows. We have a bay window along an adjacent wall, plus we get light from the adjoining bathroom windows, but if that weren't the case I'd consider high windows above the bed if you wouldn't mind the morning light. I think I'd have a hard time with them only because I like to sleep in when I can ;)...See MoreBedroom Window Treatment Advice for Window Next to Wall
Comments (5)There's no other way to arrange the furniture? If you post a floor plan (hand drawn is ok) showing measurements of furniture, walls, window width and doors, maybe there is another solution. But if you don't want to do that, I'd just get some nice looking shades of your choice (bamboo or roman) and not worry at all about covering them with draperies. Depending on the size of your window, you might have to outside mount (better for light control, I think), because to inside mount might require a custom size....See MoreWindow treatments for sliding door + 2 windows in Master Bedroom
Comments (1)You have such a nice view I can see why you would want to retain it during the day. I'd mount one rod from wall to wall, and use drapery panels. One panel on each end and wider panels in the middle around the sliders so you can pull them closed. Use a lightweight lined fabric so you can get teh fullness you need without taking up too much space. Don't use shutters. They block a LOT of light even when open, and you would never have a clear view outdoors....See MoreBest Window Treatment Options For Sideways Sliding Bedroom Windows?
Comments (15)Maybe some kind of frosted privacy film is an option. It could probably just go 3/4 of the way up the window so the top could still be clear while still providing privacy for anyone in the room of normal height. Window film alone won’t be enough to block street lights that may be distracting for anyone trying to sleep. What about some kind of room darkening opaque drapes that block glare, provide privacy, but still let you see out through them enough to be able to determine if the window is open or closed?...See Morechloebud
