I see this around town and it attracts butterflies. Any ideas?

Thanks for the potential ID. I'll be checking this year for the "samaras" In previous years I've been cutting off the fruit and new branches to keep the plant at its current size. The hope was that if it was actually a bad plant it wouldn't spread. ~Persimmons

Not redbud or dogwood as branching (dogwood) and leaf shape (redbud) aren't right. Either plant might work in the same way, however. The area looks like an above average rainfall area with a temperate climate, probably zone 6-8. Where did you find the photo?

That looks like a tree form. The bush form and tree form have different leaves and the bush form has larger clusters of flowers. They're both beautiful and bloom all year long. If they freeze back, don't worry. They'll come back from the roots.

The leaves are variable in the species, whether grown as a shrub or small tree, and the photo shows the different shapes. Bush and tree forms are just a result of pruning. They’re still the same species.
