Loud Noise coming from outside.....
Comments (2)it may be the equalization of the freon. Since your system does not make the noise in the winter, and the reversing valve is probably energized in cooling, when the cooling cycle is satisfied the reversing valve may switch back causing this noise from the pressure equalizing out at a fast rate....See MoreOutside noises and old windows - is there anything I can do?
Comments (6)I definitely feel for you, we have a similar situation but with new cheap vinyl windows/aluminum storms and a dog next door who is regularly imprisoned in one bedroom that faces our bedroom. We are looking into soundproofing glass (yeah, it really exists) but its expensive and the storms would have to be custom built to suit it. ultimately I want to put back wood windows there, but I figure the storms can be used with those windows for extra savings. Also, there was a study released by Old House Journal that found that old windows that are properly repaired, fitted, and carefully fitted storms do the best job at retaining heat/cold and noise - Ill look for that study and see if there is anything in it to recommend....See MoreBuzzing noise coming from my AC compressor outside.
Comments (3)Not without investigating it. Hate to tell you I don't know of any AC contractors that are fortune tellers with crystal balls. I can't tell you how many times a year I get someone who calls me wanting me to diagnose a system over the phone. LOL. If you want a guess go buy a magic 8 ball. I'm not in the guessing game business. If you want a quiet unit I can install one that is so quiet you won't even hear it run until it engages Stage 2 and even then it's quieter than what you have now. But I know you don't want to hear that do you? Realize I said it would be me installing it. So if you don't live with in my service area you are left to your own resources. This is the truth, much of which no one wants these days. Run to the nearest gimmick provider for safety....See MoreSoundproofing bedroom from outside noises
Comments (6)Instead of replacing the sliding glass door, you can add another one designed for exactly that purpose. Sound attenuating drywall such as Certainteed Silent FX Quick Cut or Quietrock can be attached to the existing wall. Or Green Glue can be used to add layers of conventional drywall. You haven't fully described the space you wish to make quieter. Is this an attached home, or a condo apartment with shared structural connections? The trouble with soundproofing is that so called "flanking" sound defeats many of these approaches. **** Positive that's a bird? There are strange alarms on all sorts of items nowadays. One poster discovered the chirping she was hearing was an alarm on a chainsaw....See MoreKim M
