Bromeliad ID please

Hi Guys

Out walking the other day, at the Loe Bar near Helston in Cornwall, I found this Bromeliad hedge. Not having a camera with me, I have had to resort to get pics from the web. #1 shows the hedge on the right, #2 is a close up of the flower. The comment with the picture leads me to be almost 100% sure that is the same plant.
Any ideas?

Hi everyone.

Thefof - The plant in your picture looks like one of the Bromelia species possibly Bromelia humilis or lindevaldae .

If you go to the FCBS photo index of species at http://fcbs.org/pictures.htm, there are 39 different Bromelia species pictured and you can go through these and see which one you think is the same as your plant.

Bromelia humilis

Bromelia lindevaldae

Ah hah, I see now. Sorry, terrible eyes, Aechmea 'Mend' does indeed have teeth, thanks for correcting me. I also misspoke when I referred to slips, I meant suckers, as in the pups coming from the base of the parent and not the fruit. On that note I'd like to point out that I've had very mixed results on the number of slips vs suckers on comosus. When it comes to 'Smooth Cayenne' (supermarket pineapple) I definitely get more slips than suckers, but with the 3 other cultivars I keep I get more suckers than slips! I'm still a little skeptical, though, based on how tubular and upright the plant looks in the picture. 'Mend' seems like a rather broad-leafed Aechmea. More pictures could certainly help, and it is often the case that the overall plant shape changes significantly as they mature. This post was edited by naoh123 on Mon, Aug 25, 14 at 23:01

Guzmania multifolora, yes? Enclosed is a photo that I took Sept. 2013 at Otun Quimbaya Preserve in Columbia, which is a long hour away from Pereira in the dept. of Resaralda. I like the "candy corn" colors. Quite common in those parts.

Hi guys

I am afraid I was a little bit naughty. As I got no replies, I reposted on Name that Plant forum.

B. humilis was suggested. Too cold and wet.

iochroma, suggested Fascicularia bicolor . This, I think, a very good candidate for it. It turns out that is is known to grow in old gardens in the area and is more than capable of coping with the conditions.

We are currently in winter and down here that means rain and strong winds off the Atlantic. Once spring comes a visiting again, I intend to pay another visit., Hopefully it will have lots more bracts.
