Appliances in. Please help me pick lights.
Comments (66)Oh, I like that a lot in both sizes. It's nice to see they didn't squash the glass funny when they enlarged it. There's gold highlight like my chandelier does. It's funny, I never thought of those lights as farmhouse until you mentioned it. I can see that now. I now realize I have more than one picture of farmhouse style in my mind with some I like better than others. I'll search more tomorrow too. Oh, have to tell you - I was emailing back and forth with Lightingdirect about lights (obviously) and the same guy asked me in two different, replying, emails about the same lights,"What's the project you're working on?" The first time I answered saying they were a possibility for over an island. He sent me an email with additional info I requested and I replied saying thanks. I then got another email saying your welcome and asking, again, what project I was working on. Any idea what's up with that? They've been helpful with any questions I've asked. This was the first person to do that, and I just found it strange. Maybe I'm missing something....See MorePerfect fireplace built-ins -- please help me to design
Comments (9)chispa, Thanks for your comments. This is not the main TV area. There will be a man cave downstairs with a larger TV. We will put the TV in this great room on some sort of swivel arm so it can be angled towards the viewer. Not sure about speaker location as that is DH's job (and need) in our home too. He is talking about some ceiling speakers as well as some resting in the built-ins. Do you know what the correct spots are for speakers? Yes the depth of the deeper part of the built-ins is 16 inches. I will get DH to recheck that measurement and remind him about the space for plugs, etc. I appreciate the heads-up. bpahhome, Thanks for your help and kind words. The TV will go on a swivel/pullout arm of some sort. It would be great if the remote can work from most seats -- but that may not be possible. Too funny that you have those Danish plates too. I inherited a large collection of those blue plates plus hummel plates and figurines from my Mom. I am trying to find an attactive way to show them off in this new build. Your picture is lovely and a Tom Thomson to boot. Ours is an oil original, but not by such a famous painter. It was made by a Quebec painter some years ago and was also inherited from Mom. Carol Note the colour of the built-ins will be SW Alabaster and they will match the colour of the perimeter cabs in our kitchen. For those who are not familiar with SW Alabaster it is very, very close to BM White Dove (warm off white)....See MoreAdvice or suggestions needed for built-in looking closet/wardrobe!
Comments (14)It's difficult to say how much actual work (cost savings) you can perform under the direction of a professional but that might be an option. If you are comfortable assembling pre-cut kits, you should be able to assist a pro. Even small jobs that involve hanging drywall/paneling,doors and 2x framing requires or at least benifit's from a helper. You would need a pro for one day. Two hours to measure and make a material list for you to buy, plus four hours on the day he returns to cut and nail things togeather then two hours to tape and texture. Material for all wood,no texture will be a little more expensive and take longer to trim but you should be able to cut and install trim useing an inexpensive miter box/back saw. At any rate you can paint/stain/finish the project. Find a custom cabinet shop and give them your sketch ups for an estimate....See MoreCompleted dining room built in cabinets! Comments (9)@Olychick...I was going to do a sideboard, but theres not that much space width wise, it would have to be a narrow one about 12" depth and with sliding doors, no space to open doors. Thats why the cabinets are also small and only 12" in depth shelves too. I can think of putting bookshelves or open shelving in between the two, as they would be narrower. I dont think the doors should be a problem, I can get them switched so they are mirror images. The mirror was there, on that other wall, but it was seemed too small for the space. @athomeeileen...I actually liked the unusual half wood/half glass :) @leelee...yes they are attached to the wall, so not freestanding cabinets.
