Need help with my yellowish oriental silk carpet and light grey sofa
Comments (5)It is difficult suggesting color schemes with a monitor, but I suggest you get some of the rug color up onto the sofa using throw pillows. These are from etsy. I see glass and brass for a coffee table. Something like this table..3 pieces, is interesting and not so formal. You definitely need art on the wall….maybe an oil painting? Room is great…a nice eclectic mix of traditional and modern....See MoreHow can I pull gray/cool tones from my gray couch?
Comments (4)Nice couch! I like your space. If it's any consolation, your couch isn't looking muddy on my screen. :) I agree with katie, I wouldn't risk introducing cool-toned greys. Other colours that might work: peachy-pinks, blush, soft yellows and amber, greens, purple, aqua and teal. Love Lil's idea of trying out colours with clothing first. It's a great way to test out colours in a room. I like the idea of a gallery wall but they can be iffy to pull off and get expensive (depending on frames and prints, etc.). Sometimes, it's just easier to fall in love with a big piece of art and be done with it....See MoreHelp me marry my modern gray sofa to my transitional-ish living room
Comments (50)I'm pretty sure the real reason (as opposed to it just being about my superior tastes, lol) that the mister defers questions on all decor and furnishing matters to me, is so he won't have to disappear for an undetermined length of time like the OP's husband. ;) The rug thing has always been a bit confusing to me when the house has what looks like lovely hardwood flooring - rugs cover that up! Unless it's a basement, in which case I totally get wanting to be able to use the space during the winter and not freezing in the process, therefore a rug if not carpet is needed. I can't tell if the curtains are sheers? Honestly I'm more of a 'put blinds up' for windows kind of gal, if the windows require covering for privacy (don't want to give the neighbors a show or anything, lol). Window coverings also help protect darker upholstery from fading due to sun exposure, and to a lesser extent the same goes for noticeable fade and discoloration of lighter colors. Everyone loves a room with lots of big windows providing natural light, all I can think of is what their utility bills during the summer must be like and that they probably don't have a sapphire blue velvet sofa they're anxious to keep from fading and vacuum religiously despite the utilization of a throw blanket strategy to win the war against dog fur....See MoreHow do I make my yellowish sofa look better against the Agreeable Gray
Comments (12)You're the umpteenth person today who's asked for advice without showing the entire room. We don't know what the rest of your furnishings look like, floor color, rugs, furniture, accessories. Need more visual information. .Here's my thread on how to get the most helpful suggestions when you post on Houzz. Good design is holistic, not just a three-foot section of a room. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6067247/design-dilemma-advice-for-first-time-posters Usually the solution to a color incompatibility is to repaint the walls, not replace furniture. Is there a reason you can't repaint to a creamy white that matches your terrific sofa? I don't get why so many people twist themselves into pretzels to stick with gray, gray, gray walls indoors and outdoors even when none of their furnishings goes with gray. Create an Ideabook called "gray and cream living room" and see what pops up. There's a whole thread on "gray living room walls cream sofa on Pinterest." I find the well-designed room below depressing. However, the cream rug, art work, ivory drapes, patterned pillow make it a little dynamic....See Morenjmomma
