Need ideas for closet lighting

My electrician is planning on installing LED light bars in the closets of our new extension but I’d like to spec exactly what he should install. Does anyone have any suggestions on closet LED light bars?

The only thing I would say is make sure the bulbs are daylight so between 3500 and 5000K if you want to know what works together before you leave the house.

I presume these are 'reach in' type closets? I like to mount them on the wall directly over the door trim (versus on the ceiling) as it lights the closet more evenly. 3500K is usually pretty good, lengthwise I get roughly 2/3 the length of the closet- my 5' laundry closet has a 3' light bar for example

We have worked with an architect, and to be fair, we have alot going on and I been a little all over the board. Now I think we would like to just keep it simple (instead of moving walls to change the laundry location etc). It's a simple rectangle off the master bedroom with dimension of 227 (w) * 290 (l). Would like to maximize the floorspace, maintain dual separate sinks, separate tub and shower, and have a linen closet in addition to the master closet space. We just completed our basement remodel and are also working on a sep kitchen and laundry design so I would really like to see some design ideas/floor plan ideas that you might have.

Hi Ali, In New York City apartments we have done many stacked laundry closets, usually so tight that there isn't room for anything else! Using the door for storage is great if you have the depth. It's a good idea to carefully read the installation instructions for your chosen appliances. Most dryers require some ventilation in front, so the door might require some louvers or grilles to be built in, usually at the top and bottom, if there is any chance that the door will be closed when the dryer is in use. Here is an example of an installation with cabinet type double doors with a grille above. There is a slot for ventilation up into the cabinet above. There is also a slot in the base of the doors.

I had a super deep and awkwardly placed cabinet in my bathroom. When I moved, I was surprised how much stuff had gotten shoved to the back of the cabinet and forgotten. I like the idea people had of using it to store luggage or Christmas decorations or things that get pulled out once a year. If it is to be a useful for bathroom, I would suggest the drawers since it would allow you to find the things lurking in the back. If you have whimsical little kids, close it off in the bathroom and open it from the side and create a magical little mini-reading room under the stairs (and turn it into storage when they get older).

For those wondering why a louvered door might be needed in the first place … I don’t know what is going on in the OP’s situation, but, we have an air handler that does require a louvered door. Our air handler for our basement heat pump is in a closet. No return ducting (and none is possible). The closet door serves as the return. As such, it needs to be louvered. In our previous home, we had one heat pump. The air handler was in a closet at the end of the main hallway. No return duct therefore, the door, again, had to be louvered. In this case, it might have been possible to install a return grate above the closet door. It might not have been possible because the air handler might have required a larger return opening than could be accomodated above the door.

Good you're thinking ahead. I haven't bought bulbs in years, and couldn't believe they don't make incandescent anymore....lol. So I picked up some new at HD and Costco has packs of them. I prefer the 2700-3500K range....

Thank you this is helpful in terms of colors. Yes these are reach in closets that I am referring to. Do any of you have any recommendations on terms of a make and model of light I can look at? I want something that will fit neatly above the interior door frame and will sufficiently light up the room. It should also be capable of direct wiring.

Meny, did you ask your electrician what he has access to or has used before?
