Furniture Layout and Design Help!!!

I am having a hard time remodeling my 17' x 11' livingroom and kitchen. The livingroom and kitchen run together and is all open. Need help with new furniture and layout for livingroom and kitchen needs new cabinets and want to get rid of table and have an eat in island. I would even rearrange all applicances. It feels so unfunctional! The space feels cold and uninviting. I'm having a hard time designing the right fit for such a small space.

Here's another option to consider. The TV goes on the wall where the sectional is. A sofa faces the windows with a sofa table behind it. Opposite the sofa are two arm chairs. Along the entry wall is a bench.

Not a pro but you could use area rugs to define the spaces. And for furniture in the living area go with a couch and chairs or loveseat for more flexibility. It will allow you to have furnishings that aren’t hugging the wall, so will look more inviting.

Okay, I'm going to take you at your word that you're actually asking for input. Also assuming that you're in the process of… what? building? finishing this space? A long space that is brick all around will always be lacking for light, so any way you can get light into this place. Also with a long narrow space that has to work as both living/dining will need you to set 'zones' and create a visual divider. Lighting will be crucial. Create a conversation space, a dining space—and with the door opening directly into the room, don't put any furniture immediately so as to create an entry space (although a credenza or narrow table against the inside wall would be good for keys etc.)

I like the last photo with the tv against the windowless wall. The rug is pretty but should be a bit larger to fit under both front legs of both sofas. Our first living room rug was too small so we put it in our bedroom and got a larger version of the same rug to go in the living room. The couches both look fine to keep if you are happy with them yourself. Coffee table is pretty and a good shape but maybe get one a little larger if you get a bigger rug. If you want you can also get a chair for the side closest to where the photo was taken but depending on the space of the rest of the room you may not feel its necessary or desired.

Kitchen design is kind of its own animal. I'd suggest splitting your post in two: one for living room and another for kitchen. We have a lot of very knowledgeable kitchen folks on here, who I'm sure will have great feedback. They are going to want the dimensions of the room and whether you're willing to reposition the windows.

For the living room, I recommend looking at a standard sofa, perhaps even apartment sized to pair with a couple of armchairs grounded by an area rug. I'll fiddle around with a floor plan and be back later.

I will assume that the room with kitchen and living room combined is 17 x 11?

I would find a low console so that the TV appears smaller, invest in a sectional that is sleek and comfy with a round cocktail table and possibly an arc lamp coming out of the corner, or one end table with a lamp on one side and floor lamp on the other side.

I would invest in a banquette type table with the banquette built on the wall where the dining table is now, a narrow rectangular table and a pair of chairs opposite the banquette.

Invest in SS appliance one at a time if you must; it brightens the kitchen so much and adds reflective surfaces that bounces more light around the room.....I did black and so regret it and am changing over to ss now. haha.

Get a good kitchen designer (not a cabinet salesperson) to help with the kitchen. I would move the TV to wall the sofa is on now. Get a smaller scale sofa and line it up with the left edge of the door facing the TV thus creating a walkway behind it. Get 2 swivel chairs and put them facing the window. Get a rug large enough to go under the front legs of the sofa and chairs.
