HVAC decision - need help
Comments (3)Thanks for your reply. I have not considered replacing both. Right now I am not sure what to do... Just move the AC with the risk or replace one system or replace entire system with one very efficient one + zone system? You just added another option in the process: replacing both.... My budget does not allow replacing entire system or both systems. Also, can anybody recommend a good company in this area? Trenton-Princeton-South Brunswick? I am not sure about areas, but in this part of NJ the companies in this line of work maybe making lots of money because their are not crazy about this job. The company offering Lennox would not offer an upgraded setup as a quote because it is their policy not to do so(??!!), another company told me in my face that this is not the kind of job they will be interested in (???!!, probably because of the AC move), the American Standard company did not get back to me in 2 days and so on.... The company offering Carrier was ready to had me sign on the contract the same day it arrived and presented to me (very upset that my wife was not around)... and I just got another quote from the only guy that in fact measured everything - manual J - looking at insulation, windows and so on , but his offers range from 15K-20K - however the only profession behavior so far, but 20K? Who are these people/companies? We are talking about thousands of dollars here, not 100-200.... My question I guess is: is the American Standard offer worth spending additional $1,000 (over the Lennox one)? Also, is Heil the low product from Carrier? Thanks, Vali...See MoreNeed Help Making Final Decision on HVAC
Comments (14)Is it a good thing or a bad thing that the output of the proposed furnace will be less than that of the current Trane furnace? I notice on the carrier website that the Infinity 80 (which I think is what the #58CVA070-12 is) is not Energy Star certified and does not have a media filter cabinet. Is this important? It seems like most people think it is better to change everything at once. If I do pay $2,000 more to change out the furnace for the Carrier, it is only $450 more to upgrade to the two stage Infinity 17 AC (#24ANB724) or $1,250 to upgrade to the Infinity 21 (#24ANB124). Are they basically the same, but one has a higher SEER? I would probably go with the Infinity 17 if that was the only difference....See MoreIs my HVAC high limit switch working or not? Comments (25)WHAT IS A HIGH LIMIT SWITCH? https://www.newcentralairconditioner.com/ The high limit switch in your gas furnace is a small part with two very important jobs. This switch plays a role in the normal operation of your furnace. Turning the fan motor on and off is the high limit switch’s main job. This is the role it plays in every cycle of your furnace’s normal operation. But that’s not the only thing that the high limit switch does. It’s also safety device that helps prevent your furnace from overheating. The high limit switch consists of a long temperature-sensing probe attached to a metal mounting plate. From the mounting plate, the switch is wired to the blower fan motor and to the gas valve. The switch is generally located just past the heat exchanger. This is so that it can detect the temperature of the supply air. In other words, the air that’s about to be blown into your home....See MoreHVAC Decision help... Trane?
Comments (9)We bought the house in October and the system failed before we really got into June, so I can't say whether it handled things well or not. I can see in October we still had some warm days and it was comfortable in the house. We can't insulate upstairs (main living space), well, won't, beyond the log walls, because that's part of the appeal. But downstairs in the walkout basement, I do plan to insulate down the road. If we get down to the vendor we're going to go with, would a manual J calc be the right request then to truly determine whether to go with a 3 or 4 Ton? I've also heard of a manual D but I'm not sure what that is. Any advice on Trane longevity and two speed versus variable speed pumps?...See Moretigerdunes
