Do you have a water feature?...do you even want one?
Comments (13)Emily, what beautiful fountains! I especially love the copper pot one, and I can't believe you drilled through a rock! It looks great. I've been dreaming of a pond for years now, preferably one with a small waterfall. I don't see it happening for awhile yet, though. Too big of a project to take on at this time. As for mosquito control, I always assumed that I would just use those dunks or granules - no fish planned here. Although I believe that Emily is correct in that moving water disturbs/repels mosquitos. I have to admit though, that I was at my in-laws this weekend, and they just put in a small fountain, and quite frankly, after a few hours, the thing was driving me crazy, lol! I had been thinking of getting a small fountain for my patio, but after this weekend I may rethink that. If it drove me crazy at the in-laws, it will drive me crazy at home - but at least I can turn off the one at home. Maybe instead of a patio fountain I will just do a patio water garden. :) Dee...See MoreWall Switch Plates - Did you, or did you even care?
Comments (42)There is only one place where I got picky. In the rest of the house I put in "off the shelf" ORB. In the kitchen, after renovating, we had a dark green marble backsplash installed. Being a kitchen, there were literally 8 switchplates on that backsplash. Moving them was not in the budget. I knew it would really bother me if I saw all those sticking out. I looked on line first for paintable ones but we had some odd combinations I could not find. Plus the round phone jack. On a thread here I found instructions for taking a common plastic switchplate and painting it so the paint will not scrape off. After that (light sanding, degreasing, and spraying with a dark green plastic paint to use as a primer) I faux painted them to match the backplash. The prep took some time (more the waiting for the coats to be dry), but the faux painting was all done in the time it took my husband to make dinner. I topped it with maybe 4 coats of clear spray lacquer. We couldnÂt paint the actual sockets and switches, so I ordered dark brown for those, which pretty much fades in. 5 years later and they are still perfect, IÂm glad I took the time to do it. I can even wash them. I was inspired by that and went on to do the ugly yellow plastic lids to my glass canister set....See MoreI do, do you? Keep a cooler in your car?
Comments (24)I keep a cooler in both of my cars. If I go to Pierre which is 40 miles away I uusally need it. When we go to Bismarck which is 3 hours away I for sure need it. I like to shop in ND because there is no sales tax on grocery and there is more competition because there is more grocery stores to choose from. In Pierre all we have is WM and a Super Valu. We have a grocery store 9 miles over but I don't go in there very ofter because the prices are high beins it is a town of 700...See MoreWhat do you do in the evening for fun?
Comments (32)Thank you all for the good ideas. And thank you for letting me know that your evenings aren't always filled with earth shattering memorable excitement! I do enjoy my quiet evenings, but they had gotten a little too common - even for an introvert like me. I am going to have to make an effort to look for things to do and join. My town is small and not known for having a lot to do - but I'm sure once I start looking I'll find more. I'm going to have to leave my hermit comfort zone and try some things. I love to dance, but I haven't heard of anything like that. That would be good for me - active and fun. Several people mentioned gardening, which is a good idea too. We have so many deer though - they eat everything. I tried to put in a garden several years ago and ended up having to screen it in. That's a lot of expense to have a raised screened in garden. About this time last year I made plans to cut way back and change my work responsibilities - mostly because my job had morphed into something that I no longer enjoyed everyday. But since then, we have had several sicknesses, employees with family emergencies and a key employee leave. That has thrown me back into the drudgery part of my job I was trying to get out of. I am of course replaceable, but somewhat in charge and working for family, so that's harder than it might be otherwise. Anyway, sometimes I want my evenings to be relaxing, but sometimes I need them to fun. I think I need to change my mindset to say yes to more things and see where that leads me. And looking at my calendar last night, starting next week I am very busy for the next several weeks and then summer will be here. There's always more to do then. Also - last night I put my phone away. I do think I have a slight screen addiction. It is so easy to get caught up on reading something online, following the rabbit trail and several hours later you're still there. Which can be ok, but at the end of the evening, I was not grateful for my relaxing evening, I was mad at myself for wasting time. So - less screens for me hopefully!...See MoreUser
