I selected ORB for my kitchen, and as it turned out I got a cheapy orb for the handles and they do not show ANY kind of wear at all. I have had them in place for about 2 years(or is it 3?( and I am still enjoying them. I should stress that we are not gentle people and we do not baby things in the house:)so that is saying that it is most durable. I like the warmth of the look. I agree that the hardware is relatively inexpensive to replace - but I also don't see them looking dated anytime too soon. Things do definitely go in cycles as we have all noted that brass is kind of coming back in. I wholeheartedly encourage you to get what you like, and you will really enjoy it.

I agree on the stainless. I like the Cruette, although personally I prefer a faucet with a single, deck-mounted control, like in your current setup (but I also like the pull-down). I have had a Delta Leland for ~4 years and have loved every minute of it! Maybe someone else can chime in on how well the Cruette works. WRT to moving the faucet to the side, I would be more concerned about how it functions, than how it looks. With your existing set up do you fill a pot with water by holding it in your left hand and using your right to control the water? Would moving the faucet make that harder/easier/no difference? Will you still be able to fit larger items under it if you move it to the back corner?

Rubber oil bronze is a bit more traditional (with hints of real metal coming through) while flat black is more contemporary. Either could look striking given the description of dark oak and black countrrtops it really becomes a preference. The key decision in my mind would be, what are the switches and light fixtures (in that particular room specifically) ? if your house has an open floorplan its also OK to do "zone" design meaning whats in the kitchen can have a contrasted finish from the livingroom. a side note if going with lots of dark both in fixtures and cabinets (and/or appliances and sink) be sure to bring in light for contrast, either with lots of daylight (windows), flooring, upholstery or in the adjacent space so the eye can flow or pop. Having multiple shades and texture of the same family can be beautiful but too mucb of a good thing can make it overwhelming. best of luck.

The luxury vinyl wood is a great idea. We have been very happy with it in our daylight basement the rest of the house is already oak flooring. The vinyl product looks very much like wood. As for cabinet knobs am tired of the metal knobs in all different finishes so i am using furniture grade hardware on my cabinets i have stainless steel backsplash of 13 foot cabinets and corian and granite Countertops which are hard surfaces so i wanted to go soft and organic for the handles My upper cabinets are white. In order to soften and simplify the eye i used the big wooden chest knobs in the same white. they dont compete for your eye which is always a consideration: especially with all the other appointments a typical kitchen provides Also gives a decorated feel i am told.
