Color Crisis-Of-Imagination
Comments (8)I would pick a neutral that works with all the colors in the rooms...not hard since the black, white and oak are all pretty neutral. Then I'd paint the single wall in the LR an accent color that goes with the colors in the rest of the space. The colors you use don't have to match, but they have to go. Perhaps start out by finding a fabric you want to use that has a number of colors in it and use that as your inspiration. Or you can use a design seed for inspiration. For example, You can use the lighter taupe for the walls and the deep blue as the accent wall in the living room. (A dark accent wall at the end of the space will help bring it in and not make it feel so long and narrow). Then you can select coordinating fabrics to use for window treatments/upholstery and other accessories, art and tchotchkes to reinforce the color scheme. Here is a link that might be useful: using design seeds...See MoreNeed help with paint scheme for shutters and trim
Comments (3)To me, your home is going for the cottage look if you decide to have shutters. It appears like you have enough room for the right size shutters (to look functional), but they would need to be much wider than what you have right now. Take a look at this example below: The shutters need to cover the window entirely - even if they aren't functional. See this very brief article about sizing shutters: https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/residential-architecture-101-shutters/ Your front door would look terrific in a Coral /burnt orange in my opinion. If you do go in this direction an deep olive green (like below) for your shutters would work well. I agree that the landscaping needs to be changed. Post on the landscaping sub-forum here for ideas. I would also add a wide walkway and expand the width of your steps to make it much more welcoming....See MoreExterior Color Crisis
Comments (7)Helpful, thanks much. I suspect that the shutters I have were ported over when windows were updated by previous owners and we will not be replacing them after the siding is updated. With the consideration of just removing the paint to expose the brick, and after peeling away paint layers, I discovered that the brick on the left is orange while on the right (in the middle section of the house), it is white-ish in color (the left side of the house and 2nd garage was an addition). I suspect the brick was painted to hide the fact that two different styles were used. So we will probably continue to paint it and leaning towards a matching blue....See MorePainting crisis.
