I need School Lunch Ideas
Comments (17)My mother was a master of the school lunch. I'll see if I can remember some of her lunches she packed me. A slice of garlic bread or a piece of good bread with butter and a container of cold spaghetti (or hot in a wide mouth thermos if I wanted it hot). Hot water in a thermos with instant hot chocolate mix and a few marshmallows. My favorite home made soup. Beef stew with biscuits. A chicken leg or thigh with coleslaw, a biscuit and honey. Hot sloppy joe mix in wide mouth thermos with a hamburger bun. Meatloaf, roast beef, sliced chicken or turkey sandwiches. Lettuce and tomato in a wide mouth thermos with ham, cheese and dressing to be added. Chili and a hot dog in a thermos with a hot dog bun and cheese packed for a chili dog. Carrot, celery, radishes, jicama, and peanut butter or salad dressing for dipping. Sliced chicken, turkey, roast beef, 2 slices of bread and a thermos of gravy for a hot sandwich. Hot velveeta cheese dip in a wide mouth thermos with tortilla chips and separate toppings to assemble nachos. A flour tortilla and fajita meat filling packed separately with some salsa and chips (long before she ever knew fajitas existed). Cooked plain spaghetti mixed with no bean chili in a wide mouth thermos with a buttered toasted hamburger bun. A knockwurst in a thermos of hot water and a french roll spread with good mustard and a side of her sweet and sauerkraut salad to go on the roll. Tuna or ham salad mix with crackers instead of as a soggy sandwich. Sliced varieties of cheese with various types of crackers. Banana nut bread (or any fruit and nut bread) spread with cream cheese. Comments (14)Thanks again. I've gone from no ideas to too many ideas! That's a much better problem to have. Islay, along with the things I mentioned above, I was thinking about the traditional Israeli salad or Greek salad. There are definitely some good tomatoes still around in my neck of the woods. Alex, that snap pea salad sounds great. Believe it or not, I was thinking of snap peas but for a dip not an actual salad. I know I'd devour the recipe you linked to. DC, I'd like to look at your salad recipe. The addition of carrots sounds interesting. Thanks again for your help. I've got time to mull this over and decide which would appeal to the most guests. It'll be fun!...See MoreWould appreciate ideas for a 4' by 10' gutted bathroom redo.
Comments (20)Yay, more ideas! We discussed opening the door toward the inside, but haven't decided on that yet. It currently opens into a bedroom, not a hall. This is an old, 5 panel door that matches the other doors in this old house, so I want to keep it. Doesn't lock, unless we happen to find a skeleton key to it. Husband will look at the wall and any potential of a sliding door. We will probably get a heater, vent, fan unit, with a night light. While the heated floor is a nice idea, our other tile bathroom floors don't have this, so I think an overhead heater will be enough to heat this small of a room. We definitely will want a recessed light in the shower. We are lowering the original 12' ceiling down to 10', as is the rest of the house. We do plan on putting up grab bars on all three sides in the shower. Prob won't all around the toilet yet, but but that option will be there. I do plan on a paper holder that includes a grab bar. We have looked at both a fold up shower seat or can put a shower seat in there later on if the need arises. I am not sure there is enough space for a built in one. I don't have any experience with a wall faucet over the sink, but seems like it would have less cleaning around it. We didn't see any at the stores we happened to be at, so had decided on a single handle regular one, and we both liked the idea of mounting it on the side of the sink. There are some examples of sinks done this way somewhere on this site. I like the idea of a recessed mirrored medicine cabinet over the sink. There are some very nice looking ones available, and it also would match the age of the house. I don't think anything too modern looking would match this house. I probably will go with a classic traditional look. Beside the toilet, I am not sure if I want a stack of shelves or just cabinet height. Either way, I wondered about open shelving with baskets instead of making room for cabinet doors. So funny someone mentioned space for a trash can, and have one beside each toilet in other bathrooms or under the sink. I have sort of marked off this space to compare to a bathroom we are now using. We don't have mobility issues, so I can't really tell about how easy it will be to move around as with a disability. The shower floor is a stock size at 3'x4', so I assume it is a common size. I am needing to compare quality and price to various sold surface shower floors and walls. I esp like the idea of no more grout to clean, as our other two bathrooms are tiled....See MoreI would really appreciate any decorating ideas for my tiny boat house.
Comments (7)I would replace the almost pastel mermaid curtain with a bold wallpaper mural to better match the chair upholstery. Here are three: Mermaid by the square meter Appears to go well with dinette upholstery And, if you want fishes and dolphins: Mermaid with fish I believe that all of them can be bought in different sizes, so you could put one above the wainscotting on the wall behind the curtain. Or, (all from Art.com) between the windows behind the couch: Or this one, elsewhere in the room: Or one of these sailing ships between the windows: Sails on Art.com...See MoreJanie
