That will be a very large play space. Have you thought about what kinds of functions you'd like in the room? Will you want a table area for board games and crafting? TV/video area? Open floor space area? What are the game/toy storage needs? Any book storage? How much sitting area...adult size? child size? Will you want a reading corner with a nice reading light and comfy chair? Thinking about these functions will help you figure out how to divide up the space. As it seems to be open to the front door, are there any foyer type storage needs such as a place to put shoes, boots, jackets, back packs, etc. Also, the dark curtains would make the room dark vs. venetian style blinds which would provide the light control and privacy yet allow air to circulate. You might consider them.

When you walk into our house this room is to your left and the dining room is to your right. It is also connected to our family room, which is where we have our comfy couches, ottoman, fireplace and TV. This is the only room for a playroom. It is the perfect location because I can see my 3 and 1 year old from almost anywhere in the house. I agree, the chairs are not my favorite. They were a garage sale find. They are a lovely pale blue. I added the slip covers to change the color, but keep the cost down. My kids are not hard on furniture. In general, we try to buy higher quality so it last. This room as always been an after thought. We have 4 kids under the age of 8 and have moved to this house 6 years ago. It has been a busy season in our life, but now that our youngest is 2..we are ready to finish our house.

" Formal" in what way may I ask? I see no furnishings at all, other than whatever is lined up on walls that can't really be seen in your picture. Window treatments are best derived from a flavor .... a feeling in a room. Privacy and light can be separated from the decorative, especially if you want panels. What will be that flavor? First, decide a purpose for a space you clearly are not yet even using. Adult space? Quiet space? Music? Office/library ? You can add french doors at ANY time... Go find some inspo pics of rooms you love. Be that library, just adult space w/no tv.....etc Make a plan for the space that includes the desk or the seating, a rug and to do that? You need to draw and measure your space, or there will be errors in size of anything. Don't buy in guesswork mode. Post a drawing with all the dimensions! Window treatments are best chosen when you have an extremely good idea what the room will look like and the space has a purpose: ) Neither are in place yet.
