I thought about a tension rod with sheers. We could move the tension rod down lower when the window is open. Then I realized that is a really wide tension rod to be moving every time I open a window. I wish I could find pleated cellular fabric so I could make my own shade and make it go upside down. Or even an extra wide roller shade hung upside down.

Making a tree? That’s awesome. You sound quite creative so here’s a thought. Why don’t you use plain shades, as the others have suggested, and paint your window trim the wall colour, so it all just becomes background. Then you could paint or buy a simple mural (branches, vines, woodland stuff), and flow it right over the sill and trim, on the wall? With a 3D tree, it could be quite spectacular. I’m not exactly sure what your theme is, but you could even hang stuffed monkeys, birds, fairies, etc. (whatever suits your design). Thanks for your input Patricia. I don’t have other pictures of the bedroom at this time, but there is nothing in it anyway. It is one empty rectangular 11x15 ft box with the window you see and a door. I actually like the view. I like the urban look with the old brick building I can see in addition to the park below me and mountains in the background (to the left). I thought that for drapes I needed more wall space on either side of the window to hold enough fabric to cover the window properly. If I had all that fabric, it would cover some of the window, limiting the natural light I get.

eld6161.........thanks. I too am in Florida. My second shutter vendor was here yesterday to measure and price, etc. The first told me I would find the slider "cumbersome", the second disagreed....and offered a reg. slider or a bi-fold slider. Did you have that option and did you use a bi-fold design anywhere? I do see where it would allow in more light, balance the visual appearance of the door when both open, but I hadn't even been expecting that option and I am typically NOT a bi-fold fan.....thx for any additional info you can share.
