I think there are some other problems you've got going on more than just the door color. Spatially dark colors tend to recede while light colors come to the foreground. Currently the wall the stone is on is very dark and so optically recedes further than it probably does in real life. Also with the porch overhang the doorway entrance is very dark. The garage portion of the building is painted a color that is too light for the rest of the stone work and sticks out. To help de-emphasize it and help it recede a bit, I would try to match to the tone of the neutral stone work on the house. Preferably a taupe color. Also any green color you paint will accent the red. They're complimentary contrasting colors. They each make the other one pop. (So are Orange and Blue, Yellow and Purple, etc.) If you really want to down play the red, paint the house a deep taupe color as discussed above. (Taupe is a toned or grayed out reddish brown) It will wind up working nicely with the red roof color by complimenting it (since it has reddish undertones) but will feel and look more like a soft warm pale brown. I would then paint the door a reddish color to help tie in the roof. (Try not to fight the red). It will all tie in beautifully. Barring absolute hatred of red, you could paint the door the same color as the trim to bring some light to the entrance or go for the pop and paint it a forest green.

I almost pasted in your photo so everyone didn't have to go the link route, but I noticed all your photos are © all rights reserved. So I didn't. That's a smart thing to do by the way, ©. Your screen door is very smart looking. There are a lot of doodads out front: the flower on the door, the big pot of plants, the flag. If you get a new color on the door that you love, I wonder if there will be less doodads and decoration. :~D I can think of one color for the door. It's a red, but it is a very warm red. "Warm" red is a big clue that it is an orange-y-er red. I know you don't want "orange" but the bricks are going to dictate to a great extent the color choices. Also, you don't want the door color to blend any more, like the current color. So, to get that punch you're likely lookin' at some flavor of red. Ben Moore's Caliente would be the first chip/sample I'd check out. Another idea to play with is something like a mid-value golden yellow. Again, due to the brick you'll have to get the *right* golden yellow, but it is another color option that will pop and not blend.

Thanks for the responses.. The brick is a little bit of a challenge.. "salmon". The "sheraton beige" siding comes off looking a "pink" next to the brick. I am not sure how rust would work! If I had the budget I would restain the siding as well, but that is a project for another day!! I think a stronger khaki might look good.. Maybe I should pick a color for the door that would look good with my dream color for the siding!!

Too much matching makes things, even things as big as houses, disappear. Choose a deep color of your choice! With the soft/neutral/easygoing gray & white, almost anything will add some punch. I me my own self would think of deep lacquer red or deep teal/turquoise. Beautiful house!
