Bathroom Redo-doorless shower?sauna
Comments (6)Hi arielitas mom. we briefly mentioned a steam shower but never thought much about it, not sure why as we were not opposed to this. hubby has heart set on relaxing in an enclosed infrared cedar sauna. how much water does it take? anyone had any experience with this vs cedar 2 person sauna?? either would feel good now since its in the 20's outside!! also had a ? for homepro 01, you mentioned couldn't have both sauna and doorless shower, did you mean together or is there something else i should think about?? thanks for feedback!...See MoreVery Small bathroom makeover need ideas..
Comments (7)Well, your bathroom is twice the size of our little 3/4 bath. First of all, the location of the doorway makes a big difference. With ours, it is in the middle of a 8.5' long wall, with the tiled shower to the right and the compact 1.24 gallon flushing toilet at the other end. It has a ceiling exhaust fan and an a/c vent, my DH built a couple of 10" deep shelves on the toilet end of the space. The floor is tiled in the same tile as the shower. There is beadboard wainscoting painted semigloss latex enamel white. The top is painted in a Behr satin latex enamel, all painting was over alkyd/oil primer. The ceiling is the same color, which is LILTING LAUGHTER, very soft and pale. The sink is the smallest I've ever seen, with the faucet mounted on the right side, not along the wall. I used a Price Pfister ORB pump style single hole. The sink does not have an overflow, but that has not been a problem. It is wall mounted, and is absolutely precious! We opted to omit a medicine cabinet in this bath, since the toilet in the other bath was located behind this wall, so I put an oval ORB mirrow that was the prettiest I could find. We also put in a pocket door. The toilet I chose was the Cadet 3 by American Standard, and it has many great features to recommend it. We've used it since about September and NEVER have had a failure to totally and cleanly flush. Never had to flush twice either. It is the 1.24 gallon Water Sense version of the COMPACT Cadet 3. Our contractor is pleased as punch with the way this tiny bath turned out. It is the smallest he's ever built, he said, and it does everything you need a bath to do. The pocket door does subtract some space from width of the room. If I could do it over, I'd probably install one of those by-pass barn door thingys, which would look fine if you have enough flat wall beside the doorway on one side. You buy the door you want and then mount it with a track over the doorway and down the wall. For our use, I'd have it mounted in the hall on the wall shared with this tiny bath. I use robe hooks instead of towel bars. I also have a wall sconce beside the mirror (ORB of course) and inside the shower I used a water proofed marine fixture which has an o-ring for the clear glass globe. Here is the toilet and sink half of the "room" before it was finished. The sink is the Porcher Elfe model. I dare you to find one smaller! :) The pocket door and the hallway. And the shower, being used but the niche for bottles etc is covered up while the grout dries. Love the Pulse Showerspa Hana model! This little bath was created from two closets and a piece of space from the other bath, and the door was the entrance to that other bath. Now, there is an ensuite bath for the master bedroom and it is still under construction....See MoreSmall Bathroom Redo Ideas Needed - Pics Posted!
Comments (9)I can't believe it - I have the exact same bathroom you do, and was just getting ready to post my ideas this morning to get some feedback! Please, any and everyone, I would love your ideas and comments, you would be helping two posters for the price of one! So...here are my ideas for dealing with my miniscule master bath: - Remove tub and replace with a walk-in shower with sliding glass doors. - Replace almond square tiles with white subway tiles. The tiles would go up 6 or 7 feet in the shower area, and then 42" up the wall in the remaining bathroom, with a chair rail on top. (You might be able to see the 42" line I drew on the wall to show where the tile would go up to) - Replace vanity with Kohler Memoirs 24" pedestal sink and install matching Memoirs toilet (round, not elongated as the bathroom is too small) - Remove medicine cabinet on the side wall and remove large mirror and replace large mirror with 31'x21' recessed medicine cabinet with sliding mirror doors (that is the piece of paper taped to the wall) - Install either sconce lighting or lighting over the mirror. - Install custom built-in open shelving behind the door for storage, from floor-to-ceiling (where my necklaces are hanging now). You might be able to see the line I drew on the wall that shows where the shelving would be. - Install hex tile or perhaps basketweave on the floor of the bathroom and shower. They would be ceramic as that seems to be the lowest maintenance option. Here are my questions: - Any opinions on whether to tile up 6-7" or all the way to the ceiling in the shower area? - Opinions on the medicine cabinet? I was also thinking of a large mirror on that wall with a shelf running the length under the mirror at the 42" tile mark on the walls. Ideas on shelving material? - Opinions overall? Should I keep the tub, for example? Finally, I got my inspiration from a mrslimestone on this board, I love her bathroom (see link below). Here is my existing bathroom: Here is a link that might be useful: My finished 'glamour vintage' bathroom by mrslimestone...See MoreSmall bathroom remodel layout ideas?
Comments (6)You can do the tub/shower if you do a bit of a pony wall so that you have a corner in which to put a tiny sink and med cab on the right side of the shower. This set on Houzz is $650 and includes the corner cabinet with mirror. The vanity needs only 18.5" of wall on each side. I wonder if you could squeeze in a skinny wall in front of the last 20" of the tub in order to put this in front of it? Or would it be kosher to back it up to a glass tub enclosure? Or could you glass-block in the last half or third of the tub and back up to the glass block? Here are the smaller wall hung corner sinks available at Houzz. If not, you CAN squeeze a tiny wall-hung sink right next to the end of the tub, on the right. Hang a mirror or small recessed med cab above it, and put some recessed cabinets into the wall across from the toilet for toiletries. Just remember you must have 24" in front of the toilet free of anything else. That "in front of the toilet" zone includes the entire width of the toilet zone, which starts at the center of the toilet and extends 15" to the left and to the right. So your sink cannot be in the area that a 2 ft long box, 30" wide sitting in front of your toilet would occupy. Neither can recessed wall cabinets. That imaginary 24 x 30 box goes to the ceiling I believe. A few of the small wall sinks available...See Moremollyavalon
