Hope to see it this weekend w/my DD. I've heard good things about it!

I was going back and forth on watching this movie. Decided to go see The First Man instead. It was good. I don't remember what happened in the original movie so it would be a surprise for me. Maybe I will see it after all.

I read that Cooper studied voice and guitar for three years to prepare for this movie. I loved his voice in the trailer.

I am so anxious to see this movie, thanks for the great comments. I think Gaga's voice is fabulous.

Lady G has a beautiful strong voice. Shes also lovely to look at.

As for the movie I'm anxious to see it but will wait until its released on dvd. I did not like the 1976 version with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand....but the new movies trailor looks like it will be great....I've even read Lady G might take a Academy award.

I have absolutely no recollection of the first version, so had no idea of the storyline. I loved both Bradley Cooper and Lady GaGa in their roles, they were amazing.

DH and I saw it this afternoon. It was great. Lady was fabulous with acting and singing. I didn’t know Bradley could play guitar so well. It’s worth seeing. Plan to see First Man too.

Not my kind of movie, I'll not likely see it. But I have a differing opinion about her appearance, I don't think she's attractive at all. There's something odd going on with her face. Maybe it differs a bit from normal proportions? I'm not sure what it is and it's not as if it matters. Just one person's opinion (though it's one I've heard others express too).

I really want to see this movie. Cooper and Gaga are two of my favorite people and the trailers look amazing. I might be in the minority but I think Gaga is so pretty in her natural state with brown hair and little makeup. So attractive but I guess she does the blonde and over makeup for her "look".

Thanks for the positive review. I was also back and forth on seeing it especially when someone on another forum posted a major spoiler. But it sounds like a good one to go see just for the review on the acting and performance.

I'm old enough to have seen the version with Judy Garland and James Mason. Loved it. Judy sang "The Man That Got Away" in that movie. I once made the mistake of singing it at a nursing home. " That great beginning has seen its final inning . . . " Poor choice of lyrics!

The original version of "A Star is Born" was even older, and I didn't see that one.

Just talking about it last night with some lady friends. Anxious to see it.

We saw it and liked it.

A lot of popular music stars emerge and I think "Meh, all flash". That's how I viewed Lady Gaga when I first heard of her -- but wow, she has style and substance. Like Elmer, I'm not likely to see this movie but like Sleeperblues I think she looks very good as her own distinctive self, no plastic surgery needed.

No plans to see it.

I do like Lady Gaga's voice, but I have a hard time listening to anything associated with Barbra Streisand. I had a school roommate who would play Streisand show tunes NON STOP (and prance around the room thinking she was cool), and all these years later, I'm still not a fan. Even if it's Lady Gaga.

I do agree, she's prettiest when not blonde. (Or wearing meat.)

I saw the first 2 versions, loved the second one. Will never see the Streisand one ( do not like her). But I sure want to see this one.

I saw the Streisand version, which will keep me from seeing this one, even though I really like Cooper and Lady Gaga, if the story stays the same. I have never, ever like Streisand. Lady Gaga has a glorious voice.

I will not see First Man.

I saw it yesterday and have mixed feelings about it. Lady Gaga did a fantastic job, but the movie as a whole had some scenes which were too long and or not necessary (the father and buddies) and I feel they didn't develop the passion between Lady G and Bradley strong enough.

Elmer, if you do see the movie, you'll see her appearance (which she was born with and can't help) has a lot to do with her self esteem and the abuse the character has to put up with. I think she's beautiful. And as I said in my OP, I 100% related to one particular scene.

Also, when Lady G went for her audition, she wore a lot of makeup. Bradley Cooper took out a wipe and wiped it off her face because he wanted to see her natural look. Ally looked very natural in the show. She really has a natural beauty to her. https://imgur.com/r/gentlemanboners/yIy3s

Debby, I agree. She has a natural beauty. She actually looks much better without a lot of makeup.

I saw it a few days ago. I loved the music - Bradley Cooper's singing voice was a pleasant surprise. I thought his attempt to mimic Sam Elliott's speaking voice was somewhat forced and I'm not sure why he had to have such greasy hair. It was rather distracting. I really liked him in Silver Linings Playbook. Lady Gaga seemed a natural and gave a strong performance. Their attraction to each other appeared very natural and their duets were outstanding.

I think in some ways, Lady G’s beauty becomes more apparent after you’ve had an opportunity to see her as a person as opposed to an entertainer. I’ve never seen her do an interview where she wasn’t down to earth and engaged.

The movie, from what I’ve heard is very different from the Barbara & Kris version, which IMO is a good thing because I’m not a BS fan either. I’m not a big fan of movies in general, but I too am going to watch for this to come out on video.

Yes, I believe this is the 4th version. For years, I didn't know there was more than one version of "Imitation of Life". Another fantastic movie.

I just got home from seeing it. I enjoyed the movie much more than I expected too. I don't really follow celebrities so I didn't have the issue of their roles in this as opposed to other roles they played. Except for Sam Elliot who I love as a cowboy as well as a biker (Mask). I think Lady Gaga has a special, unique beauty. It's more exotic because it isn't flawless and cookie cutter pretty. I thought she was truly beautiful when she was most natural at the beginning of the movie where she comes out fresh faced after her performance in the bar.

I saw it this afternoon. I loved most of the music and the way the songs were delivered. Surprised to read in the credits: "Additional music by Bradley Cooper." Both stars were excellent. I agree with Watchmelol about Gaga's appearance. I found Cooper's character so attractive and appealing in every way (except for the obvious).

I'm thinking of going to see it this Thursday when I'm off. Not much else playing that I want to see, except for Halloween but it's not playing till 7 pm and I'm not going to watch it that late in this little theater as they don't have stadium seating and it will probably be packed.

My DH and I saw it last weekend. We loved Lady Gaga and agree with previous comments about Bradley Cooper's speech sounding forced and his hair too greasy. We both thought the music was good but the acting weak.

imacamper, I'm with you, I didn't get the feeling Gaga and Cooper really loved each other so much, it just wasn't captured, to me. It was kind of dark too. I'm not crazy about dark movies. Everyone is saying how much they cried-I didn't shed a tear. I actually felt nothing, which is weird because I do get emotional at movies. It was nothing like the K&S one. I did like her singing, I really like Lady Gaga.

I really liked the Kristofferson and Streisand one-I did cry in that one. I'm surprised not as many have seen the Kristofferson and Streisand version on here.

We really enjoyed the music. I guess we are out of touch because I cannot tolerate that language. Using the " f word" hundreds of times detracted from this movie. I do not have friends who talk like this and and prefer it that way. It scares me that we have become so numb to it.
